New Upper R6/R1

Post by Fizzinatorr »

I'm thinking of updating my FZR 1k my windshield is cracked, my upper fairing is broken and my headlights don't work so it seems to be the same cost

Few Questions:

What will fit the bike better? R1 or R6
What year should i go with?

Will wiring it be impossible or just difficult?

Freeze i def. wanna hear your input on this one.

The 1k FZR was a pysically large bike as far as I remember. Because of that, I would go with the 99-02 R1 upper. It propably will fit with the least amount of trouble. You will have to modify or custom make a birdcage I would think. The wiring is not impossible. If it is just the headlight wires I could help out with it. I can swap the wire connectors to work with the single fillimant bulbs and keep it looking factory if you want some help with it.

Good luck and let us know how it comes along.

Unless you get R1/R6 side fairings, The upper and side fairings won't align. Unless your a terrific plastic welder and bondo king, your going to get yourself in trouble.

These bikes can have R1/R6 upper and side fairings, the brackets arent that hard to design either.

Good luck.

This bike has stock lower fairings, but I'm unsure of what the upper is - can someone clarify?

The R1 front fairings are supurb looking. That would look great on a FZR 600/1000.

thatuppers a 02-03 R1. i was going to do a full fairing swap with that yeat but unless you got money they R1 uppers will run you $150 for somthing needing work, fairing stays will run a good $100 and a head light assy will run at least $150 for a used one. those year R1 parts are very expensive.

It shouldn't be that hard. All you should have to do is splice the light bulb connectors from the R1 into the wiring for the FZR. You should also have to add a little bit of wire if the headlight uses seperate bulbs for low and high beam.

I've never wired different headlights...i can do a bit with wiring though

unfortunately i'm having a hard time finding the 2002-2003 headlight for under 190.00 and the wiring harness seems to be around 50.00 is there a way to create my own wiring for the headlights since i'll have to be slicing anyways, basically what i'm asking is getting the R1 wiring harness 100% necessary?
