cool air mod :):):)
so I was thinking... these ram air tubes are non functional... and the intake inlet is under this gas tank cover and taking in air that has been warmed by the engine. hmm... not the best for power. why can't I cut a hole in this cover and let in some fresh air... so I cut a cool NACA style duct opening in it and trimmed the snorkel down a bit to let it breath a bit better... I will be putting a piece of aluminum expanded mesh under it as soon as I get some... just to keep small animals from getting sucked in hahahahaha... not too sure the hp has been increased but surely cooler, denser air is always better for power a pic!!!

That's a nice mod. Please keeps us updated on this especially after you've ridden it. I'm curious to see how much of a difference it will make.

I've already ridden it since... not sure if it's any faster (it's always been pretty quick) but it looks cool and like I said cooler air is always better.

Interesting idea. Is it any louder? I know when I upgraded to PODs, my engine became louder than my exhaust.

Hi,95FZR600 wrote:More air is better!
while it does look cool as a mod it may in fact rob the engine of air.
The air flowing over the tank on an unfaired bike is likely to cause a vacuum over the inlet hole in the faux tank drawing out air from around the snorkel.
On a faired bike this may not occur so badly because air behind the screen is likely to be turbulent.
It would be interesting to see the effects in a wind tunnel but then you would need to have won the Lottery to afford its use. Nerd
Re: cool air mod :):):)
my bike will soon have a fairing again... just not an fzr fairing and I'm thinking the bike would need to be going about 200 to create enough vacuum to cause any power loss... especially considering that the area around the airbox is all open as well.

At work I run a program called CFDesign. Here's an example Nerdyamaha_george wrote:It would be interesting to see the effects in a wind tunnel but then you would need to have won the Lottery to afford its use. Nerd95FZR600 wrote:More air is better!

now that really is a tool to have at hand for sure.
Is it possible to re-create what KC has done since my comments where based on theory and some Wind Tunnel stuff I did on F1 cars back in the 60's. and the odd technical white paper I have obtained in later years.
Please ?

probably vacuum is less of a worry than the air turbulence in that area, which is why "still air resonator boxes" for bikes is such a fine art.

Re: cool air mod :):):)
I'm pretty swamped at work so I doubt i'll have the time to do it anytime soon. However if I get a break i'll be more than happy to run it.

Re: cool air mod :):):)
i toyed with an idea like this when i first got my fzr , but it's in such good shape that i don't want to mess with it . i'm still waiting for someone to make the ram air tubes functional , wouldn't be too hard.
