Re: A/F screws...
The exhaust temp on each header pipe exiting the head should be as close as possible to eachother, this cannot be done by turning all the idle mixture screws out the same amount.
From the factory they are not equal turns , they set them and then cap them off. If you set all of them at the same turns out (i.e 3 turns out from bottom) , the cylinder temp will be radically different between each cylinder maybe 450F on #1 and 600F on #4.
You will need a heat gun to measure the temp at each header pipe about 1" past the bend coming out of the head, typically between 420-500F is where you want them.
don't be suprised if you see temps around 650-700F on atleast one cylinder when you get started, typically they are no where near close considering bikes of this age are not usually fine tuned. MK

should this be done AFTER the carb synch?modkingfzr600 wrote:The exhaust temp on each header pipe exiting the head should be as close as possible to eachother, this cannot be done by turning all the idle mixture screws out the same amount.

Re: A/F screws...
I made a little spreadsheet of 4 boxes wide - wrote the temps inside the box each time I made a change.
As Modking stated, they will be off if you set them to the same turn out. I like a richer idle for easier starts, so I opened mine up a little more. But - the IR temp gun is a must.
I bought the Raytek MT6: http://www.neweggmall.com/Product/20015 ... 2001581010

Re: A/F screws...
Yes. But adjusting the A/F screws or IMS (Idle Mixture Screws) will only affect idle to 1/8 throttle.

Re: A/F screws...
can you adjust them while the bike is running?
