Squeaky rear shock after shorter dogbones installed

Post by ofloinn3 »

Hello everyone, I recently replaced my stock dogbones with shorter ones to raise the tail on my '94. The tail was stiff as hell for the first couple of days riding. It has loosened up and feels good now. But, I now have a squeaking coming from it that I never had before. It's hard to pin point whether it's coming from the mounting bolts or the spring itself.

Any idea's on how to fix? I have never removed and reinstalled a shock before. Do I unbolt it while on the rear stand from top to bottom or does it matter? If I need to replace it ...is there a bolt on upgrade from a new model I can use?

I can hear the squeak while riding and it's driving me crazy. Help before I crack!! Thanks!!! :headscratch:

Try applying some grease in the bolt holes of the dog bones.

He rides a 94 1000..R6 shock don't work. Changing the angle creates a new stress point. Lube all the bushings and spacers (along with the holes of dog bones like Mega suggested) with a good lube or grease and you should be good to go.

What sweeks said on lubing the whole thing.

I took off the plastics on my tail and used a pair of ratchet straps to lift the tail, unbolted everything, popped all the inserts and bushings out of all of the suspension pivots, packed them with Bel-Ray waterproof bearing grease, and put it all back together.

Mine had the squeaky/binding suspension and it turned out the Previous Owner had never lubed the suspension. Two of the bearings had rusted solid and eaten up the bushing, and I had to replace them. Now the suspension works like it should.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. There calling for rain the rest of the week here in Baltimore, so I'll get on it as soon as I have a dry place to work. Hopefully greasing it up works. Otherwise, I'll have to change my name to Sweaks. lol
