Disc lock - will it fit?

My bike is currently locked up with a disc lock w/o an alarm and a chain lock with an alarm that goes off if the lock is picked or the chain is cut (it has a wired circuit). The chain lock is locked through the front wheel and an anchor bolted into the ground, but the thing is that I don't trust the chain lock's alarm, because I cannot test it without cutting the chains.

That's why I'm thinking of buying the Abus Granit Detecto 8000, but the big question is whether it fits the brakes or not. It's not on the list of supported bikes on the manufacturer's website. Also I have been checking out the Xena XN18 and XN14, but I've heard that the XN18 has a round key, which makes the lock easy to pick, whereas the XN14 has a straight(?) key. Is that correct? Funny thing is that the higher the model number, the better it usually is.
If both disc locks fit the 1991 Yamaha FZR 1000 which one would you pick? The Abus is about the double price of the Xena.

have a xena, pretty happy the XENA definitely fits an FZR's rotors

I was under the impression that round keys are harder to pick. I know I can usually defeat a straight key (tumbler lock) every time I try it.


Otherwise I got no input on anti-theft measures..doesn't seem to be much of an issue around here...most of the local harley guys leave the lock on their master switch unlocked!

How easy is it to mount a Scorpio SR-i900 alarm on the 1991 FZR 1000? And what are your experiences with it? I read a topic in the forums where someone recommended the alarm. That might be an alternative to the motion sensored disc lock with alarm.

i have a rotor/disk locl with alarm sounds like a bird chiping <my wife said>.. im told if u wack it hard nuff with a hammer will fall right off .. I want to try it but dont want to mess up the rotor or anything else on bike .. i dont think u can pick that key because none of my other lock keys like that<4> will work with any other ..

Its a 2-way fm signal with a lcd pager key fob remote control .. the alarm itself had a proximity sensor that i hear will drain the battery unless u keep it on a trickle charge ..but its supposed to be one of the better ones on the market . but they have a i500 i600 and maybe other versions also .. and they sell a wire harness thats plug and play for a bike said year . maybe not fzr1000 but u never know ..
I would love one also because i keep mine parked outside with no achor mounted anmything just covered and disck locks on both sides and chained wheels to metal posts .. the high overpriced shit is said to be best on the market but a xena will perform just as good i would say ..

It doesn't matter how brilliant your disc lock is - a single edge on swipe of a hammer and the disc is shattered. They'll buy you 2 or 3 seconds at the very best, no more than the standard steering lock would give.

I'd divert your cash towards either another high quality chain or shackle to attach some part of the frame or rear wheel to something solid, and/or a high quality pager alarm.
