400 frame/ 600 plastics
just wanna know if the 600 plastics are a direct fit to the 400 frame? tried search but didnt find an answer out of 47 pages... the only thing i can see not bolting up would be the tail. im seriously thinking of doing the 400 frame swap but dont wanna use the plastics or swinger off the 400.

To my knowledge, no part of them match up. The 400 had a single piece tail that was shorter as well.

Re: 400 frame/ 600 plastics
thats a bummer. so basically i need a whole set of plastics. does the 600 birdcage bolt up to the 400 frame? what EXACTLY would i need for a complete 400 frame swap to work?

Re: 400 frame/ 600 plastics
The birdcage on the 600 is much larger. Not sure if they use the same holes or not, but you're looking at a major pain to get them to fit.
Why swap to just the 400 frame? The 600 frame is still a very capable frame, plus the 400 frame dents and scratches so easy.

You might want to PM BWeight. His 88 400 has 600 bodywork it and I think he can give you a good idea of what it takes to make em fit.

He used the 600 front and sides and the 400 rear. Good call, Duane.sweekster wrote:You might want to PM BWeight. His 88 400 has 600 bodywork it and I think he can give you a good idea of what it takes to make em fit.

Re: 400 frame/ 600 plastics
i was just stoked on dropping some weight and being able to polish my frame and at the same time save some money by using the plastics i currently have. i got a salvage title on this bike found a 400 frame with clean title so that was also another factor. guess i could always get a clean 600 frame and powdercoat it or something...

Dude...get the frame anyway and use your fairings....I doubt it's that hard to get em to fit. Plus you can then do the hidden steering damper modmxryder21 wrote:i was just stoked on dropping some weight and being able to polish my frame and at the same time save some money by using the plastics i currently have. i got a salvage title on this bike found a 400 frame with clean title so that was also another factor. guess i could always get a clean 600 frame and powdercoat it or something...

Re: 400 frame/ 600 plastics
Its actually not that hard at all to get the 600 plastics on the bike.. You have to make some new brackets to bolt them on, but it's not that bad. Just some 1/8" flatbar with the holes in them is what I used.. Trial and error getting it to mount, but when I had them in the right place I welded some nuts onto the backside of the flatbar and it's done. The upper is a little harder. I had a 600 birdcage and it just didn't wanna work. So I had my old 400 cage and sorta macgyver'd them together so it mounts correctly and also holds the bigger 600 upper fairing. For the tail section, I just used a 400 tail and it's done..
Anyways, here's a few pics of the mounts I had to make..

sweet bike bweight, that paint scheme is wicked. yeah dude, i think im gonna scrap the 400 frame idea and find a clean 600 frame, powdercoat it black and call it good.

You're probably going to have one shipped to you. It's usually less than $60 to ship if you find the right person to do it.
I love a black frame:

Re: 400 frame/ 600 plastics
Mine was a fairly simple process. The engine fits fine, no issue there at all. Carbs are a bit tight but again no issue. The only bit I wasn't able to fit was the fan.... so just drive fast!
. It works great and not that hard to do at all. You'll have to beef up your chain and sprockets but go for it, well worth it! Enjoy.
