Congrats, nice grab.
As far as which one to keep? Ride that 1000 for a while and I think it'll be obvious which to keep. There is no replacement for displacement.

Silly rabbits...they handle just as good as the 600 does. It just takes a little more effort to lean them over. That's all.

Mine doesn't take any effort to lean over. Push the right bar it drops right over to that side. Push the left bar it drops right over to that side. If you are struggling to turn a sub 500 pound bike then you are doing it wrong. The 1000 only has about 60 pounds more than the 600. That isn't much, especially compared to the HP gained. Nice one. Very clean bike. I agree with the "Where do you find these deals??" The only FZR´s I see are hammered...and that´s if you are lucky. I hardly ever see any anymore.
Re: it's mine; pictures added and edited
we shall see, we shall see, i've put a lot of blood sweat and tears, well not so much tears as beer, into my bike, so it will take one hell of a lot of convincing to get me to sell it. but ya never know....
I did that.

Re: it's mine; pictures added and edited
ok, got a small update. the bike is running on the reserve tank, and there is very little gas in it, so i put a bit of seafoam in the tank to run it through. got some white smoke, as was expected, but didnt get a chance to run the whole thing empty. i did pull the tank, and looked at the carbs, they look ok from what i can see, but really that isnt much. after revving it up a bit, i actually got it to idle ok for about 5 seconds on its own, but then died. still could be the carbs, i will run the rest of the gas out of the tank with the seafoam in it, and out some clean gas in and see where i am, that will be this weekend.
here is the interesting part, and could use some help here, as i have been one of the amazingly lucky ones where my bike has always run well with only minor issues, i have never troubleshot carbs or hard running, so i am a bit of a newb at it. so while revving it up pretty high, i would get a bit of flames coming out of the can, and if i gunned it and let off, i could, on occasion, get brownish smoke coming out. this was about 5-8 minutes in to running the seafoam in the gas. any of this sound familiar to anyone? the engine feels real smooth when revving up. no noticable knocks or pings or anything. it was getting dark, but when i tried to look at the oil sight glass, it almost looked like there was too much in there. i'm going to change the oil, filter and plugs this weekend.
I am wrestling with what to do with it. just sitting on it, it feels very big and boatish, compared to my 4/6WTF and i took a acouple of pics of them next to each other, to try to help i the decision making. i know i have to wait until it is running well and set up right and ride it before i make a decision, but i am already leaning towards my bikem,,a dn not the 1k. if that is the direction i take, i have to decide if i am going to sell it, or part it. but still need you guys to help out with the mechanical parts to get her running perfect, like i am confident she can.

not sure on the brownish smoke
-you have to ride a larger 1000cc bike before you decide once you get going the weight and size dissapear and you realize "hey, I like this power"
but, you'll see...maybe

Seems like it's running really rich-that could explain why it will only run on choke. My bike did the flames thing too when you really give it a good "rev up". Went away after my first go at tuning. The brown smoke is probably rust built up in the exhaust that the seafoam got loose. Yeah just sitting and moving at around the garage you WILL feel all 518lbs of it. Being as i had my 600 when i got my 1000 the difference was evident-so I completely understand and relate to that. Once you get it going the weight goes away and it'll handle and turn just as good as the 600.
One tip about the spark plugs. The stock NGK plug (which if I remember is the DR9E but I'm using the champion equivalent currently) for this bike is actually too big for a standard spark plug socket. You need an 18mm socket to get that out. Anything else you have questions about just ask. I've had to take my bike apart a good number of times now so...
You'll like the bike I think in general I think. What i feel you should look for when it's running good is this: Is the amount of horsepower and the size of the bike useful to the way you ride? Those two things should be your deciding factor.

Definitely good that you ran the Seafoam on the reserve gas. That gas was probably sitting around for awhile. With fresh (High Test) gas, run more Seafoam in it, this time drop it directly in the carbs (with tank off of course) Might take a little knack considering that you have to work the throttle while dropping in the Seafoam in each carb. It's amazing how much a carb can gum up with old bad gas, and make the bike run like poo. Is it still leaking gas now??
