Sup Guys!
I am here from the archives forum and need some help!!
Here is my issue thread on FA:
http://www.fzrarchives.com/ipb/index.ph ... ntry386675
Please read the thread, but basicly i have an intermintant start/idle issue, maybe fuel related.
Here is my last post with the lastest update:
Good/then Bad update:
So a few weekends ago i did a carb sync on all of them with a diy made unit. After spending some time doing tehm in order; 1-2, 3-4, and then 2-3, things were good exept the idel was low/close to stall area (800 rpm). During my time here, I could not find the "idle adjustment screw" on my bike (CA Spec). Where the manual showed it, nothing was there...at all. In order to compensate for the low idel, i adjusted the last 2-3 carb settings a little off (3 pressure was higher) which improved the idle and running. The bike ran/idle'd (1200) and reved great!
During the last two weekends i started the bike twice, warmed it up and rev'd it for a little to make sure it was all set. Everything was fine....so i thought!!!
So on Sunday I started it fine, and ran it for 15 mins till the temp gague was almost as it is all warmed up. All was well so i shut it off. Then i started it again 20 minutes later to show a potential buyer and the idel was low and it stalled. I tried to start again it would crank, but not turn over. Sometimes it would turn over for a second then die and not start again. I thought it was cold again, so i started to use the full choke to start it, it did, then had a rough rpm run, then stalled and wouldnt start.
Then eventually, it would not start at all, full choke, half chock or none. Tempeture gague was at warm and the engine was warm. Very embrassing, needless to say.
These were very simular symptoms i had before my overhall/sync and i am dissapointed. The fuel pump does its thing for 5 seconds at pre-crank to turn on, everthing else at the seat area does as well. The fuel pump does not make any weird noise when i run it for a little, prior to stalling.
Few key points:
I installed a new VR (06 R6) that i had here and still nothing.
It has the orignal CR8E plugs since winter that i cleaned.
It has a new mixture of 93 & 89 octane gas in it (93 first at trank drain, then more 89 to idel/rev a few times.
Would the gas mixture be clogging up the carbs? Or the maybe the plugs are fouled?
If not, my only other guess is the fuel filter. I will replace the filter and plugs and see where i stand.
Then i may need to re-sync the carbs correctly with adjusting the idel screw (where ever it is!).
Any help on the idle screw location and potential issues? Your thoughts guys? Much appreicated!
Any help would be appreicated! Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.
No, it certainly has atleast 1/4 gas in it, i can see it splashing around in there, but i am going to get new 93 oct gas and fill it up just to eliminate that as a potential cause.

Have you ever found your idle adjustment screw? I have no idea on the California models.

my old 1k got pissed about gas when I still had enough to slosh.....
what year is it??
by idle adjustment do you mean the idle mix screws on the carbs or the one screw do-dad that controls throttle plate opening on all 4(#38 in the following pic)?

Re: FZR 600 post-storage idle/stall issue
Its not the carb adjustment screws (3) on the entire assembly and not the pilot fuel screws on each carb (thats blocked off from the factory, that i have not touched). I was indeed looking for the general idel adjustment for all, the one you need to set once you sync the carbs. Well, looks like you have just pointed that out to me,haunter wrote: by idle adjustment do you mean the idle mix screws on the carbs or the one screw do-dad that controls throttle plate opening on all 4(#38 in the following pic)?

Kind of painfully obvious and the manual is unclear that it is actually on the carb assembly. The way it mentions its position, its like it a seperate know like the petcock.
So, i should just screw this all the way in,then back out 2.5 turns or so (ive heard its a good starter setting)?
Looks like i have few items here to help narrow down the issue....my most probably case here is resync the carbs again, with the idle corrected.

Re: FZR 600 post-storage idle/stall issue
*DO NOT SCREW IT ALL THE WAY IN*
~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that will make it idle at like 5-6k RPM
heres how my buddys and I do it....
run teh bike till it gets warmish on choke adjusting the choke to keep it from reving up above 4k.....
then take away the choke and see how it idles
all this is because idle needs to be set when the bike is warm
if its too high, move it maybe an 1/8th turn at a time and wait a few seconds to see what happens
if its too low, maybe give it a full turn and see, then adjust lower in the same fashion as above to get a good idle RPM
