I have the same whine and it does the same thing, getting higher in pitch with higher speed (not rpms). and it seems like when I disengage the clutch (pull it in) the whine goes away. At least, that's what I recall realizing a while back. I'll let yall know tomorrow.

Well i want my daughters 1993 Kantana 600 to whine also ..lol did any of you see it in craigslist ? it was that LIME GREEN GLOW in the DARK suzuki 600F ..... i bought it in DFW area ... yeah it actually glows in the dark ... hahahaha .... a police officer owned it , then he traded it in at a motorcycle shop .. I seen it in craigslist , went there and ran the rod bolts out of it ... wow ... that bike was smooth .... and bought it for my daughter ... that has been a few months back ....the thing has all kinds of decals on it ... Must be 100 of them ..lol ... My old mother seen her riding it and she got VERY UP-SET , SAID : did you see her huge butt sticking up in the air !!!! ? and that color !!!! tell her to get off of it NOW !!!!!! The whine goes away when you pull in the clutch because that disengages the transmission from the engine and ,thus, there is no load on the tranny. No load=no noise. I would say it's an inherent trait of sequential transmissions-probably all trannies for that matter. Ever listen to an F1 car or a DTM car with a sequential? That whine is there through out revs. I don't hear the whine on my FZR because (as ModKing put it) I have a loud pipe on it so that's all I hear. I'm sure if I put the stock pipe back on I'll hear it. I expect it to eventually return on the Kawi as well. Oil change, chain adjustment/back wheel alignment, clutch cable adjustment and then go play...There's my my2cents

first and second are straight cut gears , thats why they're so whiny , and also why once you hit third it stops . it's very normal .

i haven't been into the transmission on mine either , but i've heard from a few sources that first and second are straight cut and the rest aren't , could be wrong , but i don't see why only first and second would whine and the rest wouldn't if thats not the reason .

Try using a different brand oil.

I think Shift was saying that he uses Marvel Mystery Oil.

'Might be worth a shot.

If you do try it, inform us on the results.

2nd on mine whines so bad that the first time I really stretched the gear out, when i got out of the throttle and was riding the gear back down it sounded like a cop was behind me. I have a loud pipe (vance and hines super sport) and can still hear it plain as day.

Anything with straight cut gears is going to whine. Street cars have helical cut gears to alleviate this problem. Nothing to worry about it. My bike sounded like it had a supercharger when I first got it.

Here's an extreme example of straight cut gears whining.
