Bike oil??

Hey guys , long time no talk..

I'm about to change my bike oil along with a K&N oil filter and was wondering if anyone had any experience or opinion on the Royal Purple 10w40 Max-Cycle Motorcycle oil?!?
This is what i'm talking about: http://www.royalpurple.com/motorcycle-oil.html .. Pretty pricey but it can be found at any Napa stores. A friend told me that that's what he uses in his 94' Ninja and it minimized engine noise and helped to gain a little power. I have used Valvoline 4-stroke motorcycle oil which is ok but I think engine noise is somewhat louder than from when I was using Yamalube.
Any thoughts??

Carb settings: Main Jet 110, Starter Jet 52.5,Needle @ 3rd position,23m Floats,about 3 turns IM Screws.

It is suppose to be great stuff. I plan on switching to it soon.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....

how much for a bottle(1 liter)? NAPA is over priced and never is open at a convienent time.
I thought these bikes took 20w50? iv been using Spectro SAE 20w50.
when I shift its not very quite though...

man i cant decide which oil i want to run on my R1 ,, i asked in the R1 forum and i get mixed and biased reviews .. but from yamalube, amsoil, motul , puprle , repsol , jesus christ so many damn oils its like which one do i go with and i believe the PO used yamalube IIRC so wouldnt it be best to stick with what was in there ...

Man i really dont know what togo with .. personally im wanting to change it my self figure if i could do it onmy fiz i can do it on my R1
went to the dealer to snoop around <window shopp> and IIRC yamalube was like $15-20 a quart thats just insane in my mind ...

Yey! An oil thread!

Use the best (spec) oil you can afford to change as often as you can/is needed.

I like royal purple. I switch every harley guy I can over to it for transmissions at least. Their 'CLUNK" into first goes away.

But, I don't use it in my FZR. I use 20w50 Castrol GTX and a small amount of zinc additive and change it on average each 3-4 weeks.

And check out the video's. Im not sure if the bearing load test is on there but I have seen it in person twice at school and its unbelievable!

Im using motul 3100.Seems great choice with older sports bikes.I change mine every second race day so dont know what its like after many miles but it seems the best for clutch grip on mine.Maybe someone uses it in there road bike and can advise you a little more.

Just to keep you guys updated, I changed it with 10w40 Royal Purple and it does seem to help with engine noise a bit.I'll have to check it out more when I take it for a longer spin. It was $14/QT and bought 3 qts from Napa .Yeah , I know it is pricey..
As for the K&N oil filter , the nut on it is pretty useless. Ha ha, it says 17mm on the box ,but neither 16 or 17 have an exact fit. I had to use channel-locks to get the old one out because the nut stripped with 17mm..how fun. :duh:

I've been using AMSOil in in the Honduh but I haven't been terribly satisfied. Might be switching to purple.

Amsoil is some good stuff to. I just know what Royal Purple can do for an engine.

In the UK, dedicated motorcycle oil costs a bomb. This is strange, seeing as it's essentially normal oil without all the anti foaming, friction reducing, low calorie additive rubbish. So we're buying an oil that costs less to develop and produce, but we're paying more for it.

Another type of internal-combustion oil that doesn't have all the unpleasant additives, yet still meets the relevant lunricity, cooling and shear standards is diesel engine oil. This costs no more than regular motor oil so is what I've been using for 24 years in my bikes, following a tip from an engineer friend of my Dad that worked for Hunting Lubricants at the time (a large UK based lubricant manufacturer of the day). It genuinely is essentialy the same product, but sold, packaged and marketed for a different audience.
