Carb stuff with pics WIKI MOD HELP PLZ

I have a '90 400. I had plastic, then clip, then 2 washers, then threaded plastic cap. Not sure this is RIGHT, but it's what mine had.j

I'm not 100% certain on the 400s, but I would imagine they are similar.

If you add more washers under the clip where the plastic washer goes, you begin to "richen" up the circuit. Someone may have tried to lean yours out a tad.

A threaded cap - do you have Mikuni carbs or Keihn?

Mikuni carbs. I forgot to add the spring too, it's got plastic, then clip, then 2 washers, then spring, then threaded plastic cap. The plastic cap compresses the little spring that pushes down on the needle washers. It's got a slot for a flat head screwdriver on top and is an absolute B**** to get the threads started with it being so far down in the slide and compressing the spring etc.

The only thing I can offer is to suggest that you replace those crap screws with some Allen head cap screws, I got mine from Lowes and I am really happy with them, just remember that the screws don`t need to be reefed down just snug and a little more.

might be easier on the rest of us if you labeled your picture of the individual components in "group 6" as it is the one lister thinks the scew you are refering to is the plastic cap holding screws (4 pieces ) and recomending these being changed out to Allen hean socket or button head type (good idea) but NOT the screw you actually refer to .

To get them screws out get a dremal with a small cutting disk and cut a slot in the screw turning it in to a flat head screw.I have done it many of times just dont cut the slot too deep or the head of the screw can break in half

Works every time!

Small vise grips to 'crack' any screw that resists the proper driver.
Allen screws to replace-problem eliminated.

Small side cuters even quicker.Nip and twist.Put some allen key heads back in there.

Thanks for pointing that out, here's one with details.



The threaded plastic cap I'm referring to is the one labeled here, and it threads into the slide about 2/3 of the way down. It compresses the little spring and is down too far to get your fingers on which is why it's so difficult to get started.

The large square cap that covers the whole assembly (all the way on the left of the pic) compresses the larger spring that pushes the slide down. I recently replaced the 4 screws holding this on with allen screws and it's SOOOO much nicer. They are M4x12mm if anyone's wondering what they should buy.
