are you gonna sell off the 180? or are you planning on stuffing a r6 rim in the rear?tampaFZR600 wrote:A buddy of mine found me a set of tires for free, 180/120. o yea! Gotta pick up the bearing and oring tomorrow.

yes, but the yzf uses a 160 wheel...not a 180...
you have to stuff a r6 rim into the yzf swingarm like abs did to have a 180

+1 shred, 180 is too big for a 5.0" ride rim. its even alil large on a 5.5 rim.

The YZF wheel is a 5.5" and .....
REAR END SWAPS. The cold hard facts, there aren't any rear end swaps that provide better handling, but they do give you the fatter rear tire and updated look. Keep in mind over the years we have seen many different swing arms attached to an FZR frame. Anything is possible, depending on your skill level and ability. The most common swap is the YZF because it is the easiest and will allow you to use its 5.5x17 rear rim, and 180/60ZR17 rear tire (again, this is all about looks. There is no need for a rim/tire that big on the FZR). To make this swap even easier use a 03-06 zx6r front sprocket to get the chain to line up. you must use a 520 Pitch front sprocket, chain and rear sprocket. Besides that, some custom spacers will be required..

Re: Another YZF swingarm?! UGH, enough already!
no one makes a 180/60/17...only 180/55/17 hahah. but serioulys you can stuff a 180 on it but if you ride with a 160 on it you'll wonder why you waisted the extra $40 for a 180.
yzf600r is 5.0" wide, yzf600 R6 is 5.5. i did the r6 swap on the yzf600r swingarm and so did bmiller. i highly recoment it.

when i did it majority said dont put the 180 but <im not one to listen> so slapped that sucker on there .. honestly never had a problem but i never maxed out the bike after i did the swap . just casual city riding and freeway .. if thats what your after then by all means throw that 180 on there since u have it .. if you into track days and carving the shit out of twisties then i'd suggest tryin a 170 at the least .

Re: Another YZF swingarm?! UGH, enough already!
Yea, well, i already have the tire, so i wouldn't be spending extra for the 180. I would have to find a 170. I'll use it untill its done then get a 170....
About the R6 wheel, I'm tryin to somewhat budget this bike, and i saw the write up, maybe sometime in the future, but for now i'll stretch the tire. I am going to be takin it easy on it for the first couple months anyway...

Re: Another YZF swingarm?! UGH, enough already!
tampa, didnt you say that your rim was a 5.5 rim?
if it is then the 180 will be fine...i just remember the yzf having a 5.0 rim.
maybe the rim you got is off another bike.
anyways, i really cant wait for the swap to be done.
Im excited to be able to see it in person to really see the difference
so get on that!

Easy way to tell if the rim is for an R6 or YZF600 besides a part number or printed size.
Look at the three spokes of the wheel. If the spokes are curved back then it is a YZF. If they are straight from the center hub then it is an R6.
Got a picture of it?

Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.
