vortex sprocket orientation help!

Post by zekhubris »

okay so im doing a vortex 520 kit- and it didnt come with any instruction on which way the front sprocket goes on. ive been searching around online and getting come conflicting information. so does the machined spacer on the sprocket go in or out?? i want to be lined up properly to protect that aluminum rear sprocket as much as possible, and i tried eyeballing it but its so close its hard to tell.
thanks

Only two ways it can go on.

The right way and the wrong way. LOL

Let us know if you need help. Post some pics.

I believe that the fancy decorative cuts, item number, and vortex name is only on one side of the sprocket which is the side that you be able to read if mounted on the wheel. But then again I do run a sprocket different from anyone else here.

I agree. The writing goes on the outside. I looked at an old pic and you are right Rob.

Guys - he was talking about the 'front' sprocket. The flat side goes in. That install kit PDF is a great reference.

You're right, I didn't even see that part - sorry about that. But the same thing still applied. The Vortex name should be visible.

flat side must be in as the sprokets are both thinner due to smaller chain yet the inside rear sits in the same position as the 530 sprocket.
My kit just arrived today. Its at my wifes work and shes bringing it home soon.
If there is instructions in the kit ill confirm soon.
Charged me $75 freight.Bit dear to get them here.Hope the weight gains are worth it.
I have the 530 kit for sale if anyones after one.Dozen races old x ring(lubbed every race)and jt spockets.
No stretch and mint ETC blaa blaa 16/49 gearing

Installed mine this afternoon and took just under an hr although im getting good at wheel removal and reinstall due to doing it so often.
Got that down to 6minutes now.Bloody winter series new Zealand weather.
Its definatly large hump towards outside of bike.
Huge weight saving(approx half)
