Big enough that you are better off buying it from a dealer new. It takes a 32mm socket, so it is a big thread. Plus it is skinny which makes it an unusual fit.

You are correct, i would still like to know the size for a temp solution, not going to be riding the bike but have to move it around and don't want the sprocket poping off.

Sorry, I forgot to post up about it earlier.

The thread is an M17x1.0

Its a 32mm nut but you can use a 1 and 1/4 inch socket on it. The book calls for 43 foot lbs of tourque but It needs more than that. I would say about 70 or so.

That has happened to me 2-3 times in the past with that god damn nut until I douched it with red loctite. To break it loose again just stuff a 2x4 in the rim and swingarm to keep it from moving and hook up a breaker bar.. Or use an air gun, it cones right back off again.

Yeah, I was reading up on it and sounds like this is not as uncommon as I would have imaged. Has anyone done/have a write up for the drive shaft mod where you tap in an extra bolt in there to hold the nut in place?

If your chain is anywhere near correct tension, and even decently close to aligned, there are NO worries about the sprocket coming off.

There's no way to drill that shaft, its hardened steel. Ive had that rack of gears out of an engine just to see if I could drill press it with a carbide bit and the f*ck bit snapped.

Loctite it..

Mine has a lock washer like this that you just bend up the outside against a flat on the nut. Some have a tab that catches a grove in the shaft and other have a tab that goes into a hole in the sprocket. I can't remember what type mine has...
