YZF SWINGARM SWAP..... DONE!
3/30/10... Got my jetkit today...who wants to ride tomorrow?!!??!
UPDATE 3/18/10....wow its really been a while!
I've been riding her now i guess for almost 9 months! Of course she sat in the garage during winter and i let her battery die But its getting to be riding season again here in Tampa, so I'm going out to get a new tire tomorrow and change the clutch pads. Can't wait to start taking her out more again! I'm getting a jet kit hopefully soon!
ride safe guys!!!
UPDATE 9/25/09....wow its been a while!
WELL, been riding her for a while now,i guess about 2 months, and ZERO problems!...well, minus the 3rd gear issue, but motor wise, she feels great!
I have a couple more things to finish up. Gotta get the front fairing fiberglassed a little more, and need a left side fairing, then it will be COMPLETE!
here is the most recent pic, just painted the front forks and the rear pegs.
UPDATE 6-22-09
Well she's almost ready... Need to:
-Sync the carbs and adjust A/F screws
-Bleed brakes
-Install front sprocket and chain
RIDE!
UPDATE 6-1-09
So the new pics are below old pics.... I FINALLY got the swingarm, frame, wheels, and exhaust painted!!!
I also had no trouble dremeling the swingarm for the bearings to fit. I used the "freeze the bearing" method, and
they went in easily with a tap of a hammer on a 2x4, then i used a large punch, which was the same DIA as the bearings
to get them in the extra little bit. WORKED PERFECT! THANKS again for the write ups!
The mat black paint is NICE! Now all that's left is to swap everything from the old frame, and get the tires on.
here is the progress so far..
here are the new pics.....enjoy 5/25/09
NEW PICS 5/29/09
CL-14 hjc helmet and JR ballistic series
old frame, had to use the FZR swing arm tube and bolt
5-20-09
ya, its upsidedown, but its the easiest way to do it .....180 tire folks!

14 in front will give you faster acceleration...but your top speed will drop.
Im currently running 15/45 (stock) and im pretty happy...wouldnt mind the 14/47 though
theres a speed gearing chart ragedigital made in the wiki...ill go get it
here you go!

Not sure what your question here is. But as for the other one, I don't think the YZF rearset will attach to the FZR frame.
Good luck with the swap.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

14t shred....and i think my yzf swing cam with a 47t 520 already on it, which would be sweet, but i have to match the part number. Would it say 520 or 530 ON the sprocket itself?? It's made by JT i know that much, but i couldn't seem to find a "530" or "520" on it.
This week i have a shit load of class and tests, but next week it's on for lotsa progress. I'm going to do a detailed walkthrough of the cuts made on the arm.

Re: Another YZF swingarm?! UGH, enough already!
Cool deal. You have a complete swingarm with all the bearings and stuff.
The YZF rearsets are different. You can probably make some adapters to make them work.
You'll luck out if you do have the 520 already on there. The part # is JTR 245-3-47 all you would need is the front sprocket. That one is JTR 1307. You can get that on ebay for about 20 bucks shipped.
That an the new bearings. There is no way to get those out without destroying them. So you'll need to drop about 50 bucks for those 2 bearings which takes a while to get them in. Order them now, do the rest of the prep work on the swinger.
Im not 100% sure about the YZF knuckle. I guess what you can do is measure the YZF one and the FZR one. If its too wide you can shave some off of it where it attaches to the frame and use it. If you can't then you will have to use the FZR one but then you will have to shave the dogbone mount on the YZF swinger down by about 1/8th of an inch on each side.
Other than that and the usual stuff thats already poste din the how-to its pretty much straight forward. Take a look at my setup to get an idea on how to secure the front sprocket.
if you got questions dont hesitate to ask..... I just finished my swap about 1 week ago. Im loving it.

Re: Another YZF swingarm?! UGH, enough already!
Yea the bearings WERE a bitch to get out untill we found the right tool, then the second one came out with no damage at all. That will be the bearing i use for making adjustments. I'm not sure if I am going to go the drimmel route or not, my friend has access to a bridgeport so maybe i'll just do that...jax wrote:Cool deal. Sucks, but my rear sprocket on the yzf swing turned out to be a 530 47t BAH! So i guess I'll be buying one of those up soon, and the bearings too. On to ebay with the 530 sprocket...
I saw someone mention that the FZR shock is actually at a really nice spring rate if the FZR knuckle and dogbones are used i think...
Going to work on the bitch again tomorrow, probly try and cut the swing down to the 8.5" i need. Pics on that tomorrow

YOU wont be able to use the yzf knuckle . make sure who ever cuts the tips of swingarm pivot holes take into consideration the blade size thats cutting it also or else u might take too much off if its a thicker blade . I didnt really like the way mine felt with the fzr spring after i did mine but im over 200lbs so that might make a differnce also .. also check your bearing in your rear wheel i would swap those out if you are going to powdercoat the wheel youll thank me in the long run and your rear will feel smoother .. you dont wanna go thru this whole swap/project and use the old wheel bearings even if they are in decent shape ..i ordered my swingarm bearings from a yamaha oem company online $40 shipped but if u have a dealer close by just walk into their parts department and give them the sku # you can located it on the parts fiche of any dealer oem website for yzf600r they could be cheaper and dont have to wait for shipping or pay and if they dont have them they can in 2-3 days . i ran a 180-55r17 tire on mine and had no issues with clearence . Are you gonna powdercoat the frame also ? ALSO you can use a 520 FZR600 vortex rear sprocket if u can find one cheap and just bores the holes slightly and it will fit onto your yzf600 wheels cushdrive .. Goodluck man got some work ahead of yea but in the end will be well worth it ..

Good looks on the FZR 520 vortex sprocket, i'll keep a lookout. I am cutting the swingarm pivot tube, and i've had A LOT of practice with a cutting wheel, so i think I can handle it. Measure twice, cut once Like I said, we will see tomorrow.PIMPMYFZR wrote:YOU wont be able to use the yzf knuckle . make sure who ever cuts the tips of swingarm pivot holes take into consideration the blade size thats cutting it also or else u might take too much off if its a thicker blade . Yes, the frame is going to be powdercoated, along with the swingarm. I think I'm just going to PAINT the wheel, i have a friend that has done many wheels, not sure what the paint is he uses, but it really looks great and never chips. One of the wheels is already black, so that's going to be the theme of the bike. Matte black on gloss black.
Also, we plan to fab up the rear set on the brake side, any ideas for an upgrade on the clutch pedal assy or should i just keep it stock????
Do you happen to have a site for finding these DAMN bearings? I can't seem to find them, thanks.

you can use different rear sets, but it takes much modding.

You can order the rear sprocket through motorcycle superstore. Mine came out to like 35 bucks. If you need a good gold chain Bmiller has one for sale.
Use hose clamps on the swingarm ends as guides to make sure it cuts straight. And take the blade thickness into account. I got lucky that mine turned out good.
