Post by FZRrider09 »

I im the process of buying a yzf 600 engine and wanted to know if it would fit and if so is there any mods I have to do to make it work? also are the transmission gears interchangeable on a yzf 600 and the fzr. :headscratch:

I put a YZF600 motor into a FZR400 frame. I suggest that you also do the YZF swingarm swap so the chain lines up perfectly - plus you get to use a 17" rim!

Yep, I just mounted a YZF engine in my FZR600. It is a direct bolt in. The only real modification you need to do is to modify the air box so it will fit on the carbs. The YZF frame is a little bigger than the FZR so the air box need to be trimmed down a little in a couple of spots.

I've been working with a '97+ engine and have found out that the ram air system is a pain in the ass to deal with. Best one to work with is the '95-'96 motor as it did not have the ram air stuff. Or you can do what I am going to do and put the carbs from the '95 onto the engine. Just make sure you get the wire harness and TCI box that match's the carbs.

There are a few items that will also help make the swap easier, depending on how much of a challenge you want. Using the YZF throttle tube, throttle cables, start switch, choke cable, and light switch will help speed up the swap. It can be done without this stuff, but using it really makes it a direct bolt in deal. The only thing you will have to deal with then is wiring since the wire connectors are a little different.

And Rage is correct, using a YZF swingarm will also be a huge help and the sprockets will not line up between a YZF motor and a FZR wheel. I know someone had done this, but I do not recall what they did to fix the sprocket alignment issue.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....

I still have a YZF600 full wire harness for sale if your motor doesn't come with one. It is for the 97+ motors with the TPS sensor. I also have a CDI as well.

It's also best to get the YZF radiator since it has the correct connections for the carbs.
