That's what I would do, but ditch the bike crabs, and run a Weber, but its going to kill throttle response.

I don't think it would work at all with the factory carbs being that they are vacuum. That turbo bike there pictured is using a pull-through-carb system. Look at that little carb. I have a blow-through-carb setup on my camaro, and the first carb I did DIY, and was a pita to tune. I dished out some money for one set up correctly.
I have thought about this too. Turbos are fantastic. It's a bigger motor in a smaller package. Not to mention if you are good at fabbing, it can be done relatively cheap.
The first thing I think you should do is convert to FI. With boost and carburetors, cylinder to cylinder consitency of the afr ratio is very important and think would be difficult to do. One lean one means death.
