So how do i know before hand if its going to work or not? I've already eyeballed it and the shocks look about the same length.

I should probably rephrase that a bit. It's not that it WON'T work. It's just longer and it sits in the YZF frame at a different angle. I would suspect that it will make the back end of the bike sit really high up with the stock fzr dogbones. That's what happened to my old 600 when I experimented with a shock from a 2003 Gixxer 750 (which is almost the same length as the yzf shock). You can get it in there and then set your ride height better with a custom length set of dog bones. I've actually heard of only one person going with a YZF shock in an fzr frame and he did end up making a new upper mount but that could be a totally unique situation. Only one way to really find out and since you have the shock what could it hurt?

I went out and measured some stuff this morning before I left the house. Top and bottom mount are the same width, YZF shock is 14 1/2 inches, and FZR shock is 11 1/2 inches. I just ran outside with a flashlight to check the angles you were talking about..its the longer shock that makes the L bracket pivot and that gives it the angle. It looks like i might be able to take off the L bracket that the dog bones connect to, grind down the sides and mount it to my bike. The top mount for the rear shock is in the same place on the two bikes, and the lower mount where the L bracket meets the frame is in the same place, so theoretically if I take the L bracket and grind it down, and take the whole assembly, L bracket, shock, and dogbones, then I should be able to mount everything to the same height as the YZF. The rear shock has nitrogen gas, and there looks like there is an adjuster screw with 1 - 6 settings, I would imagine this is just a rebound adjuster, someone tell me if they know it to be something else. I tried to take the pictures below at the same angle from the same distance so you guys can see the difference between the two bikes. The first picture is the FZR, second is the YZF. Notice the huge difference in the bottom L shaped brackets. I don't really see how it won't work if I grind the YZF L bracket down to the same diameter of the FZR one and put it on my bike.

?? no opposition? I was expecting you to say something back about the swap..lol.

I'm assuming that when most people do the swap they don't grind down the L bracket and use it? So they use the stock FZR one that doesn't drop as low. And I'm also assuming that when most people get the shock/swingarm, it's because someone upgraded their YZF one a sold theirs on craigslist or ebay. So they didn't get the L bracket with the parts because the guy with the YZF kept it for his setup.

The thing that I keep thinking about that I can't figure out is how the kickstand is 8 1/2 inches compared to the FZR's 10, the frame is just lower in that one spot right? Anyone know? It looks like it in the pictures that I took, but I pulled the engine out, so I can't really tell how much lower the frame is in that one spot because there is no engine to relate it to and compare it to the FZR. Ride height between the two stock bikes is the same isn't it?

BTW, good luck getting $80 for the header...........I just gave a full exhaust from a YZF600R with 6k miles and no damage away for free after I couldn't sell it at all  Oh, and put air in your car's front tire :bunny

I like the use of bed rails, I never even thought of that. What do you have left to make it run before inspection?
not my car, which one are you talking about? The van or the gray hyundai?

Really? Can't sell the header, crap. I'm gonna use one, but I have another to get rid of.

I have to fix my right side blinker, there is a wire crossed with the running lights somewhere, have to run the coolant tubes like the YZF are ran and put on the YZF thermostat housing, replace front fork seals. And I'll probably replace the swingarm/tire before the inspection too. It's all little stuff except for the fork seals, I know how to do it, i just don't want to pull the forks off.

Nope not really. It's still a shock upgrade. The YZF is heavier so the spring on the shock is rated higher than the fzr's along with the shock itself being more adjustable. If you can make it work then go for it. It'll be another verified mod that can be done to the 4/600 frames.
