Here are the drawings of the sprockets.

Looks like they are the same. I might just be able to find a stock on on ebay fairly cheap then.

OK. I just checked. My gearing now is 14/48. Should I stay at the same ratio with the new sprockets?

You dont have to buy them on fleabay. You can go to JT web site. Either way, you need one for the swap.

OK guys. Picked up mu parts yesterday. here are some pics. $200 for everything in the pics. I inspected everything and turned the wheel around and it has no wobble so everything is true to round.

The swinger needs some paint and I am going to use some duplicolor wheel paint to paint my wheel white. The tire is no good.

All the bearing seals are in good shape and nothing seems to be grinding or anything so Im all good. I just have to buy the new bearing for the front tube and cut it down.

We have a machine shop at work so Im gonna get one of the fellas there to help me out.

Besides that I need new sprockets, new chain, maybe the hugger and a new tire which will be alot less than buying a 18 inch one.

As Im going along I would appreciate any help or tips to make sure I do this thing right. Thanks guys.

Well, the tire does not look bad. Should be able to get around town until you can get another one.

Jax,
you did quite well on that deal.
Just yell if you get stuck a number of the crew here have done it so you are not on your own & having a machine shop deepen the bearing pockets and trim them accurately to length is a BIG plus over a dremel tool that was used in one case.

Thanks fellas for the encouragement. This week I will strip the swingarm down to bare metal and prep it for paint. Then I have to order the new bearings and other stuff. I will try to get around to the wheel also. I hope to have it done in about 2 weeks depending on parts

BTW........... where is the cheapest place for a good chain and tire?

What tire size should I go with? 160/60/17 or 160/70/17?

160/60/17

As for the swingarm..If you are going to go through all the trouble to strip it down, why not get it powdercoated now and not have to worry about it later? I would also weld on spool mounts once you have it stripped of paint. Might as well if you have it all the way down to bare metal.

Oh that's not even trying to pimp my powdercoating. :no I don't have a big enough oven yet to do a swingarm. I just figure if you are going to all that work might as well make it last.

I don tknow anyone that does Powder coating. I called some local shops and asked about how much it would be to do a swingarm and they gave me quotes of 150 to 200 bucks. I even aske dhow much it woul dbe to sandblast the swingarm and got a quote for 100 to do that. I'll just do it myself with aircraft stripper and a bit of time.

I want to try to keep this project right at the 400 buck mark.

Spool thing is a good idea. I didnt think of that. I will look into it.

The problem is that it rubs in some places and you really need an alternative rim to make it work properly.

I say go with the aircraft stripper and get some decent paint applied. The Heavy Duty / Contruction Rustoleum sticks well and once fully dry provides a tough shell.
