Dog Bone Question

Post by China_Racer_1 »

So I got a 17" rim on the back which lowered things a bit, an R-1 Front end on, which also lowered things a bit.

But Ithink its a bit too low, especially in the rear.

So I can make custom dog bones to fix this?

QUESTION IS:
Do I make them longer or shorter to raise the ass end up a bit.

Anyone know the formula like 1" shorter dog bones moves the bikes ass up or down "X" inches off the ground?

This is probeably a basic question but I never scrweed with Dog bones before.

shorter raises the rear
A 1mm shorter bones will yield about 2.4mm raise on average.

The ratio is between 4:1 and 5:1 (axle travel:dogbone change) as far as I can tell.

Just make a shorter one and put 2 or 3 holes for adjustments.

I've been making dogbones for FZR's for about 5 years now. The -8 to -10mm number was arrived at to accomodate the difference between the tires available at the time and what is available now.
If you measure the difference in fork length, (below the triple) from stock to the R1 front you now have. And the difference between the original 130/70/17 that was stock on a 1000 to the 120/70/17, You can then arrive at the difference in rake. Choose a dogbone to suit...
It's not quite so easy as looking on a chart.
To say just make a set and add some holes for adjustment, will get someone hurt.
I make them in a range from 162, to 155. In 2.5mm increments.
Thaqat would b eless than 1/8th of an inch difference....
