carb and sprocket issues wth the project bike help needed

Post by China_Racer_1 »

Igot my YZF engine in from the states today and already installed it.

I ned hep with:

1st the YZF front sprocket is it the same as the FZR-600 sprocket?

if so then I can order a 520 conversion from vortex I also plan to order a kawi front sprocket for any off set needed but I am not sure what one it needs any clue?

2nd I wil add pics here in a bit but for now my question is this.

The flat slides I got fit on the engine, but once installed it hits the right side of the frame and does not allow for the carb to fit on the boots. Off by about 3/4 of an inch +-

I plan to cut the frame and install a pocket and of course weld it all up and make it structurally sound again. Any thoughts?

The Vortex front sprocket numbers are as follows:

2003-2006 ZX6R-RR - 3288 14-16
1989-1999 FZR600 - 3270 14-18
1995-2007 YZF600 - 3270 14-18

The FZR ans YZF use the same sprocket. These are a 520 sprocket size. The 32xx number is the part number with the second number being the number of teeth. So if you want a ZX6R with 15 teeth, it would be 3288-15

Hope this helps.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Thanks for the help yes that helps a lot.

Is the original front sprocket on a 400 a 15 tooth? I have a rear sprocket on the F2 wheel thats a 34 I think... I have to look.

I need a big sprocket on the rear for one track and a small sprocket on the rear for the F-1 track which is waaaaay faster.

But I wonder if just changing the front sprocket might be a easy and cheaper way to go.

Having never been on any kind of track, I'm going to through something out that is pure speculation.

The starting point for the number of sprocket teeth should be determinded by the engine that you are using. The stock YZF600 engine has a 15/47 sprocket tooth ratio as that is what the YZF engine / transmission gearing needs. This should be your starting point for setting up the specific track you are using. The CBR wheel has a 34 tooth sprocket on it because that is what the CBR engine needs. I would through that number out as it is not relative for the YZF engine. I would start by using a 14 tooth front that does not change and swap out the rear sprocket depending on track needs. This will also require a chain swap if you alter the number of teeth by more than a couple.

But then again, I'm just guessing.

Ok well actualy then think I will do this. I will get 15 front and a 47 rear as a start point. Then I wil get a few other rears like maybe a few smaller ones and a few larger ones to play with. going up a few teeth at a time. also a spare chain. This should cover the fast track and the slow track. I will also get a larger front sprocket by one tooth as well in case the F-1 rtack requires it. Its 175-185 MPH on the straight away. (Depending on bike performance and how large your balls are.)

If I can gear it so that I max out in 6th gear at the end of the fastet straight away then I should be maxed out and at optimum speed. I want to hit red line in 6th a bit shy of my braking marker.

I am hitting up Vortex for sponsorship since I have a defined race program.

This helps thanks for the info...... its going to be nice to go to Southern China in a few weeks and train at teh F-1 rtack and thaw out. Its sub zero here now :-(
