REAR TYRE ISSUES

Hi, I am new to your forum and having a read of some posts I think it may be very useful for me. Am i right in thinking you are US based??
I am in the uk. I have a standard 1991 FZR600 genesis which I have just rebuilt. I now need to change the tyres and haven't been able to get a definite answer to my question, Can I fit a 160/60R18 in my swingarm without mods? I don't use my bike for track days as I am fairly new to big bikes and mainly use my bike for work and weekends out with the lads. However, I do think the stock 140 tyre looks ridiculous!

Any and all info on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! Yes, we are based in the US.

A 150/60/18 is the widest that will fit unless you shave down your brake arm and even then I dont think it fits right.

Ok, thx for the info, a 150 it is then. Shame really as 160's are around £20 cheaper to buy, but hey ho.
Was reading about raising the rear ends and looked at the wiki about the dogbones. Have you or anybody else got any pics or done a "how to" for them??
I'm 6'4" and raising the back of mine would make a massive difference.

you can fit a 160 without shaving the break arm down. and if it even does rub, what you do is mount the arm to the outside instead of where its set. the guy that did the gsxr wheel swap did it.

but a 160 on the stock rim is pushing it.
stick with a BT014 150/60zr18

Welcome to the forum! Dog bones are pretty straight forward. I ordered mine from another member and they worked flawlessly. However I didn't take a pic of them while they were off the bike. Perhaps someone else has a pic laying around I can throw in the WIKI

the op asked about dog bones. but yeah stick with a 150 rear, and as far as dog bones, you want shorter ones to raise it

Hi guys, thx for all the comments, I think I found the dogbones whilst refitting my back wheel, mounts at the front of the swing arm area if I'm right. Do they have to be made out of alloy or can I get them made from steel like the originals??

They don't need to be made from alloy and can be steel like the originals.

Yup , sure thing .. I mounted my rear brake arm on the outside and it's fine.. just look for some bushings or spacers,to put in both of the arm spaces,and some longer bolts with nuts.. I'll post a picture sometime for a better understanding.
