That's only for the 1ks... I wonder how much different they are than on my 600.

Since I don't wheelie or wreck (knock on wood), hopefully this won't ever be a worry.

It was only a matter of time though. They keep making these bikes lighter and lighter all the time. The most recent Kawi Zx6r just lost another 22 lbs... It has to come from somewhere.

Darrin, this is not only for the 1K model. This is very similar to what I was talking about when you picked up yours. They have a tendency for the welds that hold the steering neck to the frame to stretch or snap completely. Use to be you would see a frame on eBay like this once a week, but I haven't seen any in a while now.

That's a similar fracture as the Honda goldwings had a few years back. They kept that one pretty quiet. My shop repaired GW frames from all over the midwest. Some of the Honda customers had NO IDEA it was being done..all they knew was their bike was in for service.....and it gets half ripped apart, sent to a welding shop in NoMich., welded magnafluxed and back to Chicago or Cleveland or wherever....

ive seen more frames on GSXR's all years snap then any other bikes. the casting must be pitted or somthing. honda and yamaha ive never seen anythingbut frames bend, never snap.

As the article said it is because the frame was designed for normal road use &s some track work. BUT the gixxer has become the choice toy of the loons & stunters and the abuse that they dish out hence the failure rate has risen.

When you wheely it is the TOTAL mass of you & the bile that has be absorbed when you return the front wheel to earth. Yes the suspension absorbs the aftershock the initial shock has first to be absorbed by the frame so that the suspension can work.

Not only that George, but these guys stiffen the crap out of their front ends to do stoppies... So very little pressure is being absorbed by that front end.

i saw a 05 gsx-r 1000 where the frame snapped on the right side after a crash at virginia international raceway. we had to have 4 people pick the flimsy wreckage up (from laying on it's side) and lay it in the owner's trailer. yeah, they are pretty thin these days...

maybe the thread name should be more specific to 05-06 gsx-r 1000 owners, as to not unnecessarily scare all gsx-r owners.
