Ok now this help please

Post by ANCIAL »

Ok i 92 FZR 600 put a 98 full wire harness on it do i need to swap out the guages cause the plugs dont fit. and if so isnt hte 98 gauge cluster full electrical or digital cause the 92 is 50/50 half mechanical (speed) and half electrical mechanical (Tacky). I know someone out there know what im talking about. once thanks for ay help. By the way great advise on the rad overflow bottle works great. actually used a bottle of an 07 ninja 650 its really small and fits behind the front fairing right out of sight just like on the ninja.

You have three things that might be problems for you. First is something you didn't mention - The Voltage Rectifier (VR) for a '92 uses a 4 pin connector but the '98 model uses a different VR and a 5 pin connector. This may have been upgraded for you already. Second is the front wire harness - The '92 uses a single headlight but the '98 uses two headlights. The wire connections here might cause you issues. Third and to your original question, the gauges did not change for any year FZR. I'm guessing your in the US since you talked about a '98 model as the rest of the world stopped getting the FZR in '96. Unless you have YZF gauges and wire harness (do you have a fuel light?) it should plug right in and the fault must lie with item two that I mentioned.

Sorry for being long winded, but your question has some complications to it. Let me know if this did or did not help.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

well when i switched out the 92 wire harness to the 98 harness i was able to just plug the 98 rectifier in and it works great engine fires start and runs perfect. im able to headlight just fine cause i can splice the two into one and still have hi and lo beam but i worried about the guage issue . the guages that i have are the 92 fzr guages. and i have the 98 wire harness that is fully connected to everything ecept the headlight (for now) and the guages (the big question)

Can you post up a picture of it? The gauges and wiring for the '92 and '98 should be identical, so it should just plug in.

You can add pictures to your own personal directory in the gallery. Here is a link on how to do it.

Not all gauges have the same plugs. I'm not sure which years are different but I know zero has gauges(plural) that won't plug into his current wiring hardness. It's a 9pin vs 11pin or something like that. So I don't know if your gauges will plug right in or not. If the plugs match up you'll be fine. If not, zero just jammed his in there and everything does work.

Can you get a picture of the wire connector? Looking through the micro fiche, I can't find a different part number. Seeing the connector itself would be easier.

I think I know what is going on. The gauge wires should plug into the front wire harness (headlights wire harness). Then the front wire harness plugs into the main one. See if the they will plug into the front harness instead.

Nope there is nothing else that can plug in. On the 98 harness there isnt a front harness it all in one.
