04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
Ok, i don't know all of the details on the swaps, but i'm sure you guys do..basically i just want to know the best way to fit a 17 rim and a 160 or 170 tire. Whether that be a YZF600 rim on my swingarm or a R6 swingarm w/ a 180 tire. What all has to be done with both? Right now I have access to about 4 R6 swingarms (have to find rim/tire) and a yzf600 swingarm and tire. What all has to be done about the shock, brake assy's, spacers to be made, swingarm bolt, grinding, etc, etc? I love the look of the R6 swingarm, but the writeup i was reading on it (fzrarchives.com) seems like it would take too long. And since i don't have enough free time to work on it, it would probably take a month to complete it. I've heard I can put the YZF600 rim on the swingarm, is this true? What all needs to be done about the brake setup and rotor? Does the front sprocket need to be farther out at all?

Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
the 04 r6 swingarm is way to long, it does not look right.
the 99-02 looks alil better, then there is my yzf600r swingarm swap with an R6 wheel stuffed in if you need a 180 reart tire.

Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
if you got the yzf600 swingarm and wheel .. other then making some spacers for your rearsets to bump them out a knotch and that little bracket that hold the rear brake light sensori just cut a slit in bracket and moved it over to the side .. its pretty much plug and play as long as you got the swingarm cut down and bearings pressed in .. just make sure your sprocket matche and you will need a couple extra links in the chain or a brand new longer one .. also the front sprocket from a kawasaki zx636 . i always thought the aftermarket vortex sprocket would fit from the fzr wheel to the yzf wheel, but i was scared to try it thinkin ill mess up he fzr sprocket but anothr member proved me right .. if you use the fzr sprocket you will have to drill the wholes just a tad bit and it will fit instead of buying a yzf600 sprocket or if u got a stock setup just order a stock zx-636
if you go like abs with the r6 wheel on yzf swingarm you will have to fab up the brake arm thingy because you cant use the fzr brake caliper must re-fab the r6 to fit the yzf600 swinger ... plus you will need the custom sleeves for the axle to hold the wheel<modking can make those for you >
for me easiest was , yzf600 swingarm and wheel , ppl say the 180tire is to big but i have it and dont have any issues, rubbing , hugging the wheel,ect..
I seen a whole thread on yzf600 boards about the issue of it and unless your all out racing where your tires are on their sides most often then shouldn't be an issue , majority that had it swear by it and continue to use it .
i in my case i was using the bike for transportation also so i didnt take it apart until i had the swingarm cut down. i Never ever did somthing of this nature to any type of vehicle let alone my bike , So i was a little weary not having any mechanical skills but i love a challenge .
in the end you should look like this somhow

yzf600r
yzfswingarm , wheel , front sprocket zx636, rear sprocket or can drill/bore the one u allready have , tire of course , rear axle with stock spacers ,
if using stock shock the yzf dogbones will make ur bike sit low , using stock fzr bones will make it sit a little bit lower then when you had fzr swingarm , plus you losing something with new wheel size and tire size goin 180/55 or 170/60 changes the diameters which i cant break down <someone else could though forsure>
other then buying some washers at aco/lowe's/home depot to space out the rearsets and moving that brakelight sensor over you ready to roll....
any other setup = more work then what i did ..
GOODLUCK .. Now 95fzr600's swingarm is the most recent swap i've seen and it's TiT's !!!! If i hadnt done mine this way I'd prob opt for his swap if i could get the balls to grind into my frame and whatnot ..

Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
so if i understand your post correctly, all i have to do for the YZF600 swinger is add some spacers to some small unimportant stuff and swap out the front sprocket? I don't have to weld anything for the shock, make any spacers for the swingarm bolt to ride on. I just take my old one off, put the new one on, and add some washers in? And just like that I have a 160/17? So i lose the 1/2 inch ride height with the tire being a smaller diameter, do I lose more height than that from the shock being lower or something? That's fine with me as long as it doesn't affect anything it I put someone on the back. Also, what year 636 do I get the sprocket from? And does the yzf600 sprocket work with the swap? Why do you mention using my stock one?
and 95FZR600 went with the R6 swap just like I'm thinking about didn't he? or did he do the 99 - 02 R6 swap like i think I read somewhere?
And I can't use my stock sprocket, it's one of the reasons that's pushing me towards upgrading the swingarm/tire assy. My bike was dead when I got it, it was sitting in this guys driveway for 4 years, bent leaking forks, not running, brakes all screwed up. I got it to barely run and rode it to my friends house down the road from him, got it safe to ride from there and rode it to my house. The sprocket is rusty and the more I ride the bike the more the chain eats away at the sprocket, and after riding it a year, the chain is sagging a pretty good bit and i've moved the wheel back an inch so far to keep tension on the chain. SO i figure it's better to just change out the rear tire with the sprocket since the tires are so friggin expensive, the sprocket is rusty, and I have some scratches on my swingarm right now anyway. I have to get a new sprocket.

Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
you still need to narrow the yzf 600 swingarm, where the pivot bolt goes through, but you pretty much mentioned everything else involved.
Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
i still need to know what year 636 (zx6) to get the front sprocket from, 03/04 or 05/06? Are they the same sprocket? And does the yzf600 rear sprocket work? Why was pimpmyfzr mentioning keeping the stock sprocket? Just to avoid buying a new one? And as far as my chain, i'm getting a gb520xso. I haven't counted how many links i have on mine. but is the 120 link gb520xso a little longer than the stock one? Will that work with the 636 front sprocket and the yzf600 rear?

the reason i mention keeping ur stock sprocket is , if it was in good conditon along with the chain all you would needed is the front zx636 sprocket but in 530 application not 520 then you wouldnt need a chain or rear sprocket even though its prob best money u can spend for the bike ..
, but scratch that as you need a whole new set up, cheapest way around that get a gbx520 chain make sure the front sprocket is is zx636 520 pitch/application doesnt matter what year they only made since 03 and on i believe .. and make sure the rear sprocket is 520 to match chain and front sprocket .. Now if u can find the chain520 and <rear sprocket for fzr> and just drill the wholes a little bigger so it fits on the yzf600R cush drive . i was scared to drill mine for fear that ill mess up the sprocket but Another member here did it so i know it works and he hasn't had a issue as far as i know today because im sure he would of posted it .. but if u cant find a 520 vortex fzr rear sprocket just order a yzf vortex rear sprocket .. front sprocket $30 , rear sprocket $70 new gold 520 chain roughly $100-120 , so be ready to shell out almost $200 just for chain and sprocket unless your a bargain shopper like me and find everything around $100

Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
There are a few write-ups with all the info you need. Go through and read each one and pick which one you want to do. I explained very clear what needs to be done on the 99-02 R6 swing arm swap with lots of pics. Good luck!
Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
oh, i've never upgraded the chain..so i can't use a 520 chain on the stock sprocket? I have to change everything to 520? So the 636 front sprocket that I would need to use isn't a stock one is it? Or does the 636 front sprocket come stock as a 520?
Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
Stock is 520. I just looked it up. You can also run a 525.
Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
Actually, the stock chain size on the FZR 600 is 530. Stock gearing is 15 tooth front sprocket and 45 tooth rear. Requires a 106 link chain.

Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
ok thanks man, thats exactly what I needed to know. Since I have to add a few links, and I'm getting a 120 link gb520xso, i was worried that maybe i would have to get a couple extra links, but the 120 link would be perfect. I should have extra links left over then. Thankssweekster wrote:Requires a 106 link chain.
Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
almost all motorcycles chains come 120 link then you cut them down to size , 95fzr600 referring to stock 520 ,was meant for zx-636 front sprocket i believe ... look on ebay for zx-636 front sprocket or u can order one OEM from any dealer ..

Re: 04 R6 swingarm/tire vs FZR swingarm/YZF600 tire
the dealerships are way too expensive here, i'll just search craigslist nationwide or something..i have a friend that supports himself working on sportbikes and upgrading them..he had a 636 engine that a guy never changed the oil in..he tried to give me the engine because it's royally screwed w/ something like 10k miles on it. I think he might still have it, if he does, then i can just get the sprocket off of it!PIMPMYFZR wrote:almost all motorcycles chains come 120 link then you cut them down to size , 95fzr600 referring to stock 520 ,was meant for zx-636 front sprocket i believe ... look on ebay for zx-636 front sprocket or u can order one OEM from any dealer ..
Sorry but i'm a bit confused because a bunch of people have replied to this. Will the 520 chain i'm getting work with 120 links or do I need more? (considering I get the yzf600 vortex rear sprocket) That's all i need to know now. Thanks!

Yes, it will be enough. All 5 series chains have the same pitch (distance between centers of the roller pins). If 106 links works in 530 it'll take 106 links in a 520
