Is there a down side if i want to keep my FZR 600 stock? am i going to be so off? or i need to upgrade to keep in line?...

My question is because i love mods on bikes (im working on a 94 CBR 1000F, to make it look closer to a CBR 1000RR Repsol, my favorite ride ever.) But my FZR is almost all stock and someday it will be a classic model to me.

Well anyway... what do you think?

i have modded bikes for damned near half a century, the odd thing is that my FZR6 is the only bike i have cared about not modding . well I have modded but all the mods are returnable to stock. Nothing I have done cannot be undone and the original parts i have cleaned , repaired if required and mothballed.

Stock is good. I'm currently resto-modding my, once dead, 94 FZR 1000. The appearance will be true to the original lines. I may paint it someday but you'll know it's an FZR from front to back. If you wanna keep it stock then I suggest doing so. There are enough cheap beater FZR's out there that you have the best of both worlds..one clean classic and one modded street (or track) machine.

I love the look of our modded FZR's but I would like to include an all stock one as well to my small collection of motorcycles but it takes money. And that, I dont have a lot of right now. If, in the next couple years Im able to pick up another one I would like to restore it.
Do what you want to do. You dont have to mod the FZR. There is nothing wrong with a stock fizzer. Just be sure to post lots of pics when you can.

I hear you about keeping it stock, and I think you'll still be happy with the stock fizzer (looks very clean and well kept, by the way), especially if you have another bike you're modding. I love the classic look of the FZR600, and I get stares and compliments every time I take her out. I personally only have one bike, so I also mod mine a bit, but I try to keep it fairly stock appearing (if you familiar with the term "sleeper," you'll know what I mean). No R6 tail for me.

I'd say if it runs fine, just do regular maintenance and leave it alone. Enjoy riding it, and ride it every chance you get. It's too easy to get too carried away with too many projects, and if you're not careful you'll find yourself in my predicament...wanting to ride the bike but having 4 or 5 major mechanical projects that needed to be done yesterday.

my first question how clean is your bike? if its a clean stock fzr keep it that way. if its a layed down beat up one mod away just my $.02

I say mod like mad but that's just me. I tend to dream about doing mods and solving issues. I never could leave well enough alone. Still, there is something to be said about original.

This is a very personal thing to do. Do you mod a bike or not? You'll never get your money back modding a FZR600 so if you do mod it. So you should do it because it's something you want to create. Also, don't forget that Yamaha made this bike for 10 years with almost no changes. That alone means it won't be a collectors item any time soon. I myself never had any intention of modding mine. I only did after a low side and coming across some parts dirt cheap. I would love to get another FZR, either a 1000 or 400, but I think that I would mod those too now that I've done this one. Either way, it's your bike so do what you want. Just add some pictures so we can see it.

I'd like to find another mint 96 like what I had. If I did do it again, I would leave the body stock, but I would improve things like the front brakes, get a shift kit, etc... nothing major.

MODs cost money and time - a lot of both AND you won't ever recover the cost of what you put into the mods unless you get the parts almost free and that they're already the color you need. Paint's not cheap either.

In a climate with a hotter summer (like where I live) the newer VR's are good, but still not 100% bulletproof. If he lives in a warmer climate, he may also consider a manual fan switch to keep the heat down.

What do YOU want in an FZR?
As someone already pointed out, a bunch of these bikes were made. If your dream is to have a mint condition FZR that is going to be worth bookoo bucks someday...keep dreaming-someone already has one in a garage with 3miles on it, tits still on the original tires, never seen the light of day, etc.

Me, like George, functional mods that make make it a better, more rideable motorcycle. Nice looking but not show quality. And that begs to be ridden.

I like to be able to look at a motorcycle I own and know that I have ridden it like it is supposed to be ridden and have a head full of momories...both in the garage AND on the road with it. Good times with the bike and with good friends. How I was on it when I met that black haired goddess and threw her on the back for her first m/c ride ever, and she reciprocated......
