Is anyone here running a steering damper?
I was thinking about ordering a steering damper from a ZX-10 or something, and trying to modify it for the FZR. I'm sure some people on here have done it already, anyone have pictures?
Re: Is anyone here running a steering damper?
Several people have them on their fizz.
I'll be one of them , when I decide to go outside in the cold garage and put mine on.
I'm sure they will chime in soon.

Re: Is anyone here running a steering damper?
appearently some gsxr one works...I dont know about the zx10 though...
they were just selling one for the fzr on ebay...
I had one on my bike (until my bike tipped over and the damper acted like a slider and bent the crap out of it...)

Re: Is anyone here running a steering damper?
Yeah, I saw that, but there weren't any brand names on it, and it didn't look adjustable... I didn't really think it was a good buy even if it worked starting out at $50. What years GSXR dampers are you guys using? Or do you have to modify all of them anyways?shredex wrote: they were just selling one for the fzr on ebay...

The whole setup was about 100 bucks. The bad part is, I dont know how the fairings are going to fit up with it yet.

That looks pretty good man. You got a pic of how it attaches to the clip-on or fork or however you did it? Is that from a GSXR? Or is it a kit for the FZR?slayermd wrote:

abs: I haven't seen any kits for sale new. Maybe one will come up on ebay. Do you think that one that was just on ebay was the real deal? I thought it was kind of sketch.

Re: Is anyone here running a steering damper?
if you have the mount for the forks, and the mount for the frame, then I think you can use any damper you please that is of that style...
I have this custom made frame mount which bolts straight on with the two bolts you see right above the damper in slayermd's pics.
here is a pic of my mount...its the silver aluminum colored thing right under my bar.

So that's all you really have to look for is a 38mm?, right? fork mount? It shouldn't be too hard to make a bracket and mount it to the frame. Fairing clearance may be a problem though as Slayermd said.

Re: Is anyone here running a steering damper?
fairing clearance wasnt a problem with my setup at all. I had the fairings on my bike with the damper on.deernet wrote:So that's all you really have to look for is a 38mm?, right? fork mount? I have the fork mount and the frame mount I can sell you for like maybe $20 shipped or so.
you just have to find the right length one.
here is mine that is no longer in use...wonder why

Re: Is anyone here running a steering damper?
Here is the damper. It does the job so far, but I dont know how durable it will be. I got the 38mm fork clamp off of Dennis Kirk for 35 bucks. It was made by SHINDY. The damn thing was like a puzzle. It took me a few days to figure out a good spot that would work. The place that I have it mounted now probably wont work when I get the fairings.deernet wrote:That looks pretty good man. Here is how it is mounted to the fork tube.
I had to re-do the coolant tube and lower the radiator. I think it looks pretty cool tho.

Re: Is anyone here running a steering damper?
guys use to mount them to the frame and front work under the tripple tree. this was they could run the fairings and nothing would interferre.

Re: Is anyone here running a steering damper?
You can add any stabilizer you want to. It all depends on how willing you are to customize. I bought a Scotts Dampener from eBay and made my own brackets to hold it. Acutualy, I designed them and Modking made them for me. Here are some pictures.

It wasn't too difficult.
