Thoughts on 03/04 or 05/06 636?

I've been researching all sorts of different motorcycles for my next bike, and I'm kinda stuck on the Kawasaki 636 ZX-6R. My attraction to the 636 at this point is purely looks because nobody around here seems to know anything about them! Does anybody here have some experience with these bikes? Are they excessively pricey to maintain? Common problems? Halfway comfortable? This would be my daily driven/show off bike while the FZR would be my project bike, so my next bike needs to be reliable and something that I'm not constantly working on. I'm mainly interested in the 03/04 and 05/06.

I think they're a great looking bike, but I don't have any knowledge of them either, so I guess I'm of no help.

i LOVE 636's. I prefer the 05-06 styling over the 03-04. I wish I owned one so I could answer your questions haha. I just know the 05/06 have more power, different fairings, undertail exhaust..of the top of my head.

05-06 Has undertail exhaust. My buddy at school has the 05 636 and he loves it. He rides it every day.

The rear tail is kind of funky to but thats because of the undertail exhaust.

I wish I could find one around here to look at and put a leg over. There seems to be only gixxers and R6/1s around here.

So, this pic is kinda scary...


I don't think it should be taken into consideration though because this bike is obviously used for stunts (which I'm not into), but its still stuck in the back of my head... Who knows what actually happened though.

Also, as far as style goes, I'm not perfectly happy with either. I don't like the undertail exhaust because most aftermarket systems stick WAY too far out, and if its tucked back to my likes then I'm sure I'd melt/smoke the undertail. I HATE the swinger on the 05/06. I'd rather have the black frame and 05/06 wheels. From what I've found, the 05/06 had more power, and the 05/06 came with slightly bigger front brakes. The 03/04 was lighter though.

Other than color, the OMR bike that I put in the first post is where its at.

03-04 is the best looking style ever in the 600 kawaki, i hate the seating position on the 05-06 and kinda think they are not as attravtive (only the green ones!)

my buddy has 05 636. it sits nicer then i am use to (929) but i like the way the 03/04 sits due to the flat style seat vs 05/06 is rounded some..i get hotter also im summer. front ends are about the same on them and so is the motor about. i'd go 03/04, either way its a good upgrade and you wont need more power for years...trust me.

but hey why listen to a guy to rides and redlines 929?

I bought a '03 zx6rr brand new and loved that bike-I just sold it this last summer. It was a great bike lot's of power- not much on the low end but great mid range and top end. I sold it because I wanted a bigger bike for riding two-up with my wife. I'll probably get another one some day but for now I'm liking my '00 ZX12. Never ever had a problem with it ever-started everytime and only did general maintence every year.

My old room mate got married and he's selling his 06 636 for a Harley. But that bike is amazing! faster than the other 600 series, but it does have an extra 36 cc's. When you hit 90 it feels like you've just begun to unleash it's potential. It's like the thing wasn't made for speeds below 90, it just feels solid. Get it! as far as the 03/04 636..i have no idea..but if it's anything like the 05/06 then it's well worth it. I personally like the black one because that's what my room mate's was. My room mate was telling me that they stopped making them because they were disqualified from the 600 series races from always winning, they disqualified them because of the extra 36 cc's giving it an advantage. And since they stopped racing them, not as many people were buying them.
