Rotten Eggs.......

Post by R3TARD »

So I'm at a stop light and I smell rotten eggs..... And I am framiliar with the smell of a hot battery so I ride a 1/4 mile up to a parking lot and 100yds before my turn she craps out and I have no spark and a 1 month old battery that is totally dry and i assume shot. I suspect maybe the VR but wont be able to really look at it until after work today. Any guesses as to the damage done? What all can the VR fry? Thanks in advance (I knew I shouldnt have painted her) LOL

I would get the battery filled back up and throw it on the charger to see if it will take a charge. If you can get the bike running on the battery, you can then test the electrical system to confirm that the VR is bad. There is a spiffy flowchart on the archives (I haven't seen it here) that walks you through testing your electrical system. I have a hard copy at home that i can get online if you can't find it.

Definitely sounds like the VR.

Here is the flow chart:

It helped me out when mine fried.

+1, that was fast, too bad it cost you a new battery to motivate you to get the new VR in.

Yeah no shit. You know what though this is crazy...

I've had a dead spot in the throttle forever (since I got the bike) and I was certain it was a carb issue. By the time I got the new VR and battery on her last night it was dark 30 so I didnt ride her. So this AM I go out to ride her to work and she wont start and I'm like what the hell so I choke her a lil more and she doesnt start so I turn the choke off and she starts up sputters a bit, (flooded) I get on her and take off and notice a lil more pull so I crack her open expecting her to blahhhhh out in the usual dead spot and she says Zing and my front tire comes off the ground and I'm like shit damn f#&k. anyways new VR= no more dead spot and I would have never thought that RRBike

With TCI Ignition you need a very good 12V supply, anything less = crap performance.

Keep on top of your electrical maintenance, clean connectors, no corrosion in plugs etc etc
