Another FZR600 Tail Question

Post by the_finch »

I was looking at getting another tail for my bike for days that I don't need the passenger seat to clean up the ail and give it that "vintage race bike" look. I found this FZR400 race tail on eBay.

I was thinking of going with one of these or a "F" Generation TZ250 race tail, like this:

I was wondering if anyone had swapped these before and if the stock subframe will fit under either of these without shortening. The overall goal is to make the extra neccessary brackets to mount the race tail easily installable/removeable and to utilize the stock-type clear alternatives tail light that I already have.

Well i know that 400 tail would require chopping some off off the end of the subframe since it's a good deal smaller. The TZ tail should be able to work with less fab work.

I ran a TZ tail at the track, but I'm not so sure that the lights would work with it.

Why not just get another rear seat with a rear seat cowl attached? :headscratch:
Then all you got to do is swap the seats. Removing the complete rear tail when you need the passenger seat, if you do a complete swap will be more work. Check out my fizz below as i had it before.

I've got it, if you're interested..... Just some sanding and a new paint job and you're set. :grinnod:

Nice pics of the track bike, there, Rage. Do you still have the bike/tail and would you be willing to part with the tail?

I actually have a maier solo seat cowl, but getting the paint to get it to match is a PITA. The local paint shop wants $230-ish per quart making of the stuff, and I can almost repaint the whole bike with that much paint. If I'm gonna repaint the bike, I'm gonna repaint every bit of possible bodywork for the thing before the paint goes bad, as I'm not buying any more bodywork after I repaint it.

I was just thinking more along the lines of being able to have an excuse why not to give the bigger chicks a ride when I have it on, rather than trying to explain that I'm afraid of them warping my subframe (for some reason, bigger chicks find me ruggedly sexy, in a young Sean Connery/Hugh Jackman kind of way banghead ). But, if I pick up a skinnier chick for a girlfriend, I still would like the option of going "two up" so she can "feel closer to me", rather than having to try to keep up in her car (I'd be long gone). :whistle

I now understand your motive for the swap...
It makes a lot of sense, good luck on the swap.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone know what the max rated passenger load for our bikes is?

(Yeah, I know this thread is turning out to be wrong on so many levels.... )

Not really sure myself, but I think it has to do with the rear shock you have installed.
Stock is surely no good, an aftermarket shock with a heavy rated spring should do good.
Just think about how much the both of you would total out to be for the spring rate and there you go.
But as I said, I'm not too sure. Someone else chime in on this! :whistle

I sold the bike and the tail.... sorry, bro!

I think the "No FAT chicks" stickers do work... or a sticker on the back seat that states "115lb max weight". ha!
