Glad to know that it wasn't that bad. At least you got that out of the way and now you can concentrate on riding...
I won't preach to ya. The guys here have done a good enough job of that already.
Now I know how you got the name "Shredex"... Dude, I just "shredex'd" my arm!

Glad it wasent worse..
This is the place I got my leathers.---->jackets 4 bikes<---It's no name stuff, but the quality is pretty good.I think I paid around $280 for the jacket with armor & back hump and pants with sliders & armor. They have 1 and 2 piece suites from $150 to $260 also, and thats a cheep price to pay to keep your skin intact.I think I got my gloves from them also. They have boots too that dont look to bad.The ones they had when I ordered my stuff looked like crap so I got some nitro tec's on clearance..

I've been wondering, is the back hump supposed to be a safety feature, aerodynamic thing, or a little bit of both?

Re: finally bailed
I think they're just an aerodynamic thing. I wouldn't think they're safer since your neck will now snap back further - unless that hump is made of a really compressable material.tommyj27 wrote:I've been wondering, is the back hump supposed to be a safety feature, aerodynamic thing, or a little bit of both?

I would say both. It's a real dense foam.Havent tested it yet and dont want to,but im sure it would absorb a lot of impact....tommyj27 wrote:FasterThanUr wrote:Glad it wasent worse..

I would think whiplash too. It always looks like those things go right up against the helmet so it won't be able to travel back any farther and snap the neck in a fall or crash. I could be dead wrong but it looks like it.haunter wrote:aero is the main reason

I dont think it would. When my arms are up on the bars it keeps my head from going too far back, but with my arms down I have full range of motion..Well no I guess if you were rear ended by a cager it would help...thatkid wrote:I would think whiplash too. Re: finally bailed
My motto is: "get the BEST gear you can afford" (but do it evenly... no sense having an $800 helmet if you have no gloves)
I'd say spend a decent amount of money and get some leathers (TEKNIC, etc) that will last a long time. My old jacket is too small for me now but it's over 12 years old and still going strong (Teknic violator). I got a new Teknic Violator a couple years ago and it's built rock solid.
Got the matching Speedstar gloves, more recently the sport leather pants as well, and a nice pair of Sidi Vortex's. Money well-spent that's for sure. I've been hurt enough in the dirt, even with gear on, a lot of the spots i've fallen the earth is as hard as concrete, so, I dare not risk my bones on asphalt.
Word to the wise... so since you live in Florida get a light color or white vented leather and some reinforced jeans like the ones made by icon. I think Joe Rocket makes some really great vented leather pants also. Not cheap but hey Christmas is coming. Screw i-pods, video games and other horsesh*t... get some motorcycle gear. I plan on getting a new Suomy helmet soon personally, the Scorpion is just proving to be a bit heavy.

Re: finally bailed
i rode my fzr for 2 yrs before i got a jacket , in those two years i ate shit once on some gravel ended up chest first sliding about 30 ft , i had some mechanic style gloves <autozone, $9.99+tax> and a kenneth cole jacket < was a nice coat about 3 qaurter length got it on clearence for like 80 bucks> that jacket in my mind saved my body from eating shit in the ashpalt, and the forearms where still smoking when i took the jacket off to see if i was ok under ... god bless that jacket .. Since then i have gotten this SCHOTT racing jacket made of some textile fabric with all the padding on it ,its pretty heavy duty !! Reg price was like 365 i got it for 140 . Got home looked it up on internet couldnt find a damn thing written up about it ..LoL that sucks i know but i like it , just need me some new gloves !! thank god for christmas

Re: finally bailed
i hate to say i'm not surprised. you've complained because your fzr doesn't wheelie easy or go 160 mph(neither of which you should be doing on public roads), and then i find out you haven't been wearing gear. i hope you've learned your lesson, and am glad your still among the living
Re: finally bailed
Yeah, gear is good. It got pointed out to me this evening how important brake drills are. I try to get behind our K-Mart or Wal-mart (truck yards) at least once a week and do full panic stops.
It paid off tonight. I was on a road I ride all the time, about 200 yards from an intersection I was gona turn at (I was at about 60mph) and some broad in an Audi coming the other way figured she would jump in my lane to cruise 40 yards to the driveway she needed to turn left into. The sun was behind me & "..she didn't even see.." me (I had my high beams on). Car behind her in the left lane..her in mine coming at me and angling in towards her driveway, gravel shoulder and ditch to the right (which option she was closing off fast).
Front wheel howling and rear trying to lock...I got down to about 15 and slid the rear a bit to the left and got parallel to her and squeaked past her rear end and the car behind her.
Yeah, I turned around and had a conversation with her about it. I was kinda harsh at first..I definately got the first word in. It ended up pretty good, I don't think there is anything to gain by flat going off on someone but she did get a little education. "you get a dent, your car goes to the bodyshop. MY body gets damaged and I go to the hospital AND my bike is toast"
Ohh, did I mention she was hot?
