R6 tail swap

Post by Zxanthion »

Is it the same process on a 1WG 400 (Genesis) as changing the 600? I've seen plenty about changing the 600's by bodging the existing subframe to changing it to the R6 subframe altogether, so I'm pretty much aware of what they need. It's the Genesis 400 details I'm not sure about.

Anyone....?

It's hard times when you're the first to reply to your own thread. lol

Regarding the swap : I'll just have to go for it & see how it turns out.

I've noticed the R6 tail is a bit of a common mod now, but I'm not too confident in modding bikes atm so it's at least a start. I've went ballistic on a few PC's & they've turned out ok so what I've gathered is; if you don't try, you don't learn.

I wonder if anyone will read this..... :ermm:

I just read this too.

I've put an r1 tail on my 1wg. But only the tail (and rear seat). I didn't put the r1 subrfame or driver's seat. I just kept mine. And the result was preety cool. See my image gallery.

I have done the only R6 Swinger swap on a 600. I think. The 400 frame is much different. You may want to check out spyder's swap and read my thread. Also, there is a link to crazyivan's 400 r6 swinger mod on my 1st page of my swap thread.

Good luck and post pics!

I'm looking to do this same mod! I posted about it on the archive forum, but nobody replied.
I will give you a quick rundown of what I'm doing. I'm planning on building a 400/600 bike. My interest in the subframe swap is weight savings and looks. I have no interest in using a stock 400 subframe cause it's heavy. So, my options are A) R6 aluminum, any year I assume. B) A custom fabricated unit which is not as practical on a street bike C) 2TJ aluminum 400 subframe which is VERY rare & only a true butcher would hack one up to fit a R6 tail on it.
Considering I can't find anybody who has a R6 sub & 400 frame laying around, I can't get an answer on fitment(which prob isn't close anyway), and the rear shock mount would have to be completely fabricated from scratch and added to the R6 subframe. Definately not an easy mod to say the least, but not out of reach.
I most likely will be buying a R6 subframe and a 400 steel subframe just for reference and mocking up, but I wont be doing this til mid winter.
