whats the specs on the 89' fzr rear wheel???

Post by shredex »

I went riding hard today, toping out my damn bike tryin to keep up with an r6 and a 750 gsxr.
well, anyways, I noticed my bike wobbling a little and not being stable when I was taking turns at all.
when I got to this big biker meet that really far away, some guy told me my rear wheel was flat!
FUDGE!!!
no one had a pump. I found out that there was a big hole in my rear wheel where I mut have hit a nail or something.
I was completly broke.
I duct taped the wheel and road all the way back home carefully.

so I need to replace my rear wheel, but I dont know what I need to get. any help?

Shredex,

Both the 89-90 and 91-99 rear wheel are 18" wheels. The only difference is in the fact that in 89-90, the 600 had an old school box swingarm and a 3.5" rear wheel. In 91+, they went to the beefier deltabox swinger and a 4" wide rear wheel. If I'm not mistaken, you have a '92 foxeye, right? You would have the deltabox swingarm and need the 18x4" 1991+ rear rim. The good news is that both PIMPMYFZR and thatkid have spare rear wheels for sale, and you should easily be able to get them cheaper than eBay, while helping out fellow FZR enthusiasts.

Which model year you have doesn't matter. The only thing the really makes a difference is the rim itself. Take a look at it. You should see some raised letters that say 3.5x18 DOT or 4.0x18 DOT. Now get online or try your local cycle shop (not a dealer) and look for a Bridgestone BT14 (BT014) 150 60R18, buy it and have it mounted. Try buying from a place called CycleGear. They offer "Motogaurd" for the tires if they mount it. Cost like $15 but it's loke road hazzard insurance for the tire. The only reason I say look at the rim is so you know what you have. Some shops may say the 150 won't fit on a 3.5" rim. It will, but your at their mercy so node your head and say thanks anyway. It's nearly impossible to find a 140 tire any more and I think the Bridgestone is the only "High Performance" 18" tire still made.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....

Just to clarify. Do you want to replace your complete rear wheel or do you just need a new rear tire?

Oops. My bad. I thought you were talking about the wheel itself, not the tire (or tyre for our users accross the pond  ).

AS far as Tyres go, the Shinko 006 Podium comes in a 150/60r18 as well and is supposed to be a pretty good tire. I was gonna try it out when I replace my tires next. The other option is sport touring tyres, since the bike is your main form of transportation. They don't provide quite as much grip, but they have alot better lifespan, so you won't have to replace them quite as often, saving money.

+1 on the BT-014. I did find that mine did sqaure off after 1500 miles. That's waht you get from highway miles.

Too bad they don't make the 150 in a BT-016 with the triple compound.

They do make a 160/60/18 for some reason. Anyone know what that is supposed to fit?

I'll sell you my rim/tire/rotor/cush/etc for 120 shipped. Cheaper than you're going to be able to get a new tire mounted and balanced for. Tire has a lot of life left in it, rubber cush things are super tight, bearings are fine, and it's a 4" rim. You'll get the spacers with it. Plus it'll pretty much be bolt and go.

well, I really just need the tire, but I could use a new rim because my bro pointed out that it was bent a little. I dont feel it when riding.
and I need a tire with grip because I like taking turns fast.

And my rim says 18xMT4.00 DOT
and my tire is a Dunlop 140/60 ZR18

im trying trying to stay cheap as im still pretty broke and I have dues to pay still.
