Re: bike modding...
that white fzr-r1 up there is the shit, though i agree that a thicker rear tire will make it match a whole lot better than the fzr one
Re: bike modding...
all i want is a 180/17 rear..i'll be happy, and the cheapest way that I can get it done is the way i'll choose..sweekster wrote:I'm interested to see the carb swap. Aren't the intake ports on the YZF600 head a different shape than the FZR? If you can make the work that will open up another door for modding the FZR. Also, you don't really HAVE to cut and reweld the YZF swingarm (unless you want to) to fit a wider wheel. With some spacers, the R6 wheel will fit right in. Here's ABS's thread on that.

I see in your sig you have done an air mixture mod with guage would you care to share details ?
Thanks
Re: bike modding...
Hey if it helps, I posted this info at the archives about the intake differences between the FZR and YZF's, http://www.fzrarchives.com/ipb/index.ph ... 0847&st=68
The only way you could do this swap without a lot of extra work is to just jamb the YZF carbs on the FZR intake boots.... the overall carb spacing is the same, but I think its a 1mm or 2mm difference in OD of the carb throat.diztroy wrote:...I was looking into it for another member recently, so I snapped some pictures and made up a slide that shows the differences between the FZR and YZF intakes.
Here's the slide, http://www.oldskoolyzf.com/gallery2/mai ... itemId=940
Here's the differences,
The FZR's have a round port, whereas the YZF's have an oval port.
The FZR's are taller to clear the water tubes, the YZF are shorter because the water tube is routed differently below the carbs, not between them.
The FZR's fit smaller carbs then the YZF's.
The bolt hole spacing is the same, so they will bolt up, but the port is different.
Re: bike modding...
if you got all the parts needed to do swingarm swap i think it would be easier then putting that r1 front end , IMO .. you could swap out the fzr swingarm for yzf600 in a couple of hours and be riding before dinner , given you had it cut down and bearings pressed , new chain and sprockets and wheel with tire .. your good togo , i wouldnt run a yzf swingarm with a R6 wheel .. just making more work for nothing really ! might as well jus swap out for r6 swingarm but then your in for grinding and what not ....the only reason i would run a r6 wheel on yzf swingarm is to put a 190 tire..shredex wrote:HOLY CRAP!
Thats the best looking FZR iv seen!
shit. find out what year that front is and let me know.
I also like the tail on that bike, is it a r6 tail?
god I need to do a swing arm swap. but I dont have metal grinding tools or anything. and I dont have the time. My bike IS my transportation. so until I get another source, I cant do serious work on my bike.
but hopefully that r1 front is only a one day task to install.
that r1 front will need a custom birdcage<fairing stay mount> that can take 1 day if you really want to come up with a good plan for it , the R1 tail would complment the wider tire on back of fzr , i would never do an R6 tail of any year .. Y .. because its played out now

Re: bike modding...
it's a pretty easy mod.I dident go all out and get a wide band set up,that would run $150-$200 bucks.I just wanted something that would give me a good idea of whats going on.I picked up a sun pro AFR guage on amazon for $28 shipped and a denso 1 wire o2 sensor for $25 shipped on ebay.yamaha_george:
FTU,
I see in your sig you have done an air mixture mod with guage would you care to share details ?
Thanks
I Drilled a hole in the header just past the collector and welded in a o2 sensor bung, hooked up the guage, sensor and thats it.
My bike was running a little rich,I knew that befor the guage, but thats why I got it to help tune in the carbs a little better.Come to find out yesterday I have 97 YZF 600 carbs with no jet kit and they were still set to factory settings.I drilled and pop out the A/F mixture caps # 1 was at 1 1/2 # 2 & 3 were at 2 and # 4 was turned all the way in.I turned them all to 3 1/2 and now the throttle response is a million times better. It's running on the first of 3 bars on the guage rich at idle and when I rev it up,it drops back in to the happy zone of a ideal mixture.
I still havent been able to ride it to test my ram air and see how it will read under load thanks to Vortex taking there sweet ass time with my rear sprocket, but as soon as they do get it to me there will be updates in my ram air thread.
Heres a couple pics, there not the best.

Re: bike modding...
i see..so i wonder if i would have room if i took my little FZR manifolds, cut the top half off of them, put a silicone coupler on and slid in the carbs. hmm...diztroy wrote:Hey if it helps, I posted this info at the archives about the intake differences between the FZR and YZF's, http://www.fzrarchives.com/ipb/index.ph ... 0847&st=68

My carbs are YZF carbs and after looking at theose pics in thet link, there in the stock boots. It takes some elbow grease to get them in there but they do fitmatch417 wrote:i see..so i wonder if i would have room if i took my little FZR manifolds, cut the top half off of them, put a silicone coupler on and slid in the carbs. hmm...diztroy wrote:Hey if it helps, I posted this info at the archives about the intake differences between the FZR and YZF's, http://www.fzrarchives.com/ipb/index.ph ... 0847&st=68

Re: bike modding...
well, mine are cracking at the tops from nearly 40,000 miles of heat. I don't think forcing anything in there larger than what is supposed to be there is a good idea..at least on mine. Maybe if I found new manifolds...

Re: bike modding...
and just a question, has anyone out there enlarged the air duct holes in the frame for more airflow? yzf600 air ducts are huge, and the airflow tubes don't just go into the frame and stop like ours, they go through the frame and attach to the airbox. I'm probably going to enlarge them and reinforce the frame in that one spot, i just want to know if anyone else has, and if i seal off a box around my individual air filters to where it only connects to the outside via the air duct tubes through the frame, i'll suck in a LOT of cool air..add in yzf600 carbs (i think i found local 04 carbs..i'll know when the guy responds) with more airflow and larger jets, and you've got a mean FZR that looks like an R6/R1 frankenbike...

I can't remember where i saw it but I do remember seeing where a guy with a 600 frame enlarged the holes on the inside and ran pvc pipe to give his pods more air.match417 wrote:and just a question, has anyone out there enlarged the air duct holes in the frame for more airflow? yzf600 air ducts are huge, and the airflow tubes don't just go into the frame and stop like ours, they go through the frame and attach to the airbox. manifolds can be had pretty cheap
I have a spare set that I got on ebay for 18 bucks shipped.
I think the thing to do would be to get spare manifolds, the carbs, and test fit em....then get a die grinder or rotary tool and open the manifllds up a little
