400 adjustable fork caps question

Post by Target30 »

ok, so when i bought the donor race bike, it came with progressive springs and adjustable caps. i know nothing about what they can do, and how to do whatever it is they can do! so my question is, after my ride today, the front end seemed a bit stiff, like it was set for a heavier rider. believe it or not, the guy i bought it off of was a couple inches taller and a little heavier! :yikes: surprising, i know. soooo, would turning the adjusters counterclockwise loosen it up, giving me a softer ride? this would seem correct in theory, but i really dont know. im sure changing the weight of the oil in the forks will help, but that not gonna happen this year, and i dont even know what weight is in there. i have an email into the guy i bought it off of, but i figured someone here could teach me a bit, so have at it!
I did that.

I would assume turning them counterclockwise will turn them out making it softer.

I hooked my brake light switch to my throttle,so when I hit the gas everyone would slowdown and I would be gone :headbang:

The caps are preload adjusters. The preload adjusters are to adjust the amount of sag on the front forks. Turning the preload knobs clockwise or towards the + gives you more preload and - gives you less. Of course more equals a stiffer ride. Hopefully every time you hit a bump does not end being an attempt at flight.
