about wheelies

so I have a 95fzr600, not really what you call stock but I have many freinds that ride the new 600's. gixxer's, cbr's, and r6's.

Usually when I go to pull up the front end, I clutch it or just power up. This is done in first gear. But when I try to do anything in second gear I just cant lift the front up even a foot. And then I see my buddy's doing second gear and even third gear wheelie's.

My bike seems to not hold the clutch on and just slips. Though my clutch is fine.

I know for a fact that my bike is faster than any newer stock or even mildly 600. I mean my buddy with a 01cbr600 seems to be doing wheelies in 2nd easy. And when we race i seem to pull on him very quickly even though he has +2 sprocket in the back

what can i do to get my front up in second. I know its dangerous and all but I dont do this on the road. Only private places.

I just want to know if any fzrowners can actually do 2nd gear wheelies and keep them balanced

well for one thing the newer bike are lighter if i remember correctly so they have less weight to pull up as far as how to get it up on one in 2nd idk can't help you that i'm more into taking curves on 2 wheels that riding straight on one but hey to each his own

+1 - i believe my 600RR is about 70lbs lighter than the FZR was, and quite a bit more power. I [unintentionally] get the front wheel up once in a while in 1st, I've heard it's easy to do in 2nd with the RR but I have yet to experience that.

the tranny is too weak and not enough power ..but if rev it upto 10k rpm and pop the clutch .. im sure it would come up even in second . your running a bored engine so it should be easier for u then for us stocker 600's

Mine wont pull it up in 2nd either really I mean I can pull it up maybe a foot or two but not up. Of course I got this dead spot in my throttle and have I thought that prob effected it

I never really tried to do a wheelie but it has happened a few times in 2nd gear unintentionally. It happened coming out of a corner and lifted up only a few inches. My bike is a 1000 and stock set up and I have difficulties. Ahh mabey Im no stunt man.

I'm not that fussed about wheelies as I don't like broken bones & love my bike, but if I were I'd have bought a crosser of some kind.

Well you're kind of comparing apples to oranges. Your FZR is a steel frame and the seating position and ergonomics are more "in the middle". The newer bikes are aluminum framed with the ergos more setup to have the back end higher up. The way the newer bikes are "balanced" and geared is what makes them easier to wheelie. Plus they are lighter and have more available power to them. You're faster than they are probably because you can ride your bike better than they can rider theirs. If you haven't already, you could switch to a 520 chain setup with maybe a 49 tooth aluminum rear sprocket- that will probably make a big difference.

went to a stunt show today, most guys have 530 chains with HUGE rear sprockets. I have no idea how many teeth, but DEFINITELY more than 49 teeth. Some must be custom sprockets.

Like I said never really tried. It is a long bike and stock sprocketry. Aint nothing wrong wit the bike its the rider. Havent tried and probably wont on this bike.

thanks for the advice guys. I guess i will change to a 520 and get a bigger sprocket in the back. Anyone know how much lighter the 400 frame is

I would go with a lrger sprocket in the rear if you want to wheelie alot, alot of the stunt riders sprockets are in the mid 60's to low 70's for teeth. will bring the front up anytime but really no top end. I don't have the 520 conversion yet but will over the winter. I have heard it makes a big difference. I have got the front up in 2nd but not much, and that was just hitting 2nd real hard from 1st gear redline. I am more comfortable on 2 wheels anyway and was never good at wheelies. I've just seen to much bad shit happen on 1 wheel.
