YZF 600 exhaust swapability
I remember something about the YZF 600 exhaust fitting on the FZR......?

Darrin said it swaps right over. Have no experience with it myself although it could be the reason that I can't nail down who made my FZR header. It could very well be from a YZF. Haven't looked much into it though.

From reading about the 660 build, it looks like the YZF600 head itself is almost exactly the same as the FZR head, just with a different bore to the cylinders. The camshafts are supposed to swap back an forth, so the valves must be in the same position, which means the ports can't be too different. If I was the lay money on it, I'd put money on it fitting perfectly or with very subtle tweaking. How it fits under our stock plastics would be anyone's guess.

I thought that the angle was a little different and caused problems?

well since I dont have 95% of the plastics I dont have to worry about that

if your talking about the full exhaust system, then you have to make the space between each pipe a little farther.
theres a guy that will mod the stock YZF exhaust to fit the fzr. I dont know how much he charges, but there is a topic on it on this site, or maybe it was on the fzrarchives web site

From what i read the headers are similar but the angle on the YZF is slightly different. Can't remember if you need to swap in a 400 oil pan or not for that to work.

The YZF600 is the Thundercat, the R6 is the YZF-R6. At least over here. The chundercat motors the same as the FZR, differing only in cam profiles and carbs. At least over here.shredex wrote:the r6 is the yzf 600haunter wrote:that the YZF R6 not the YZF600

I threw a FZR exhaust on a YZF motor and ran with it... no issues.

...and I'm running stainless chundercat front pipes with and early R6 silencer and an aftermarket FZR link pipe with no problemo.

That's not true. The motors are a fair bit different internally for starters the fzr600(89 - 93) has a bore and stroke of 59.0 x 54.8mm with a redline of 11500rpm and 91hp. The thundercat(or fzr600r, 94 - ?) has a bore and stroke of 62.0 x 49.6 mm with a 13000rpm redline and 100hp. They may look the same but the cylinder block, head, cases and pistons are all quite different, this is how the 660 conversion is possible. fzr660/400: fzr400 3en1 frame, 3en2 swinger, custom single seat subframe, fzr660 motor conversion, APE adjustable cam gears, full D&D 4-2-1 exhaust, falicon clutch basket, ignitech ignition, R6 front end with tz250 wheel, ohlins shock, storz steering damper, tzr250 rear wheel.
