What Tires or Tyres you are runnin

Post by shawnwon »

Im setting this up to see what everybody is rollin on.
What are your tires, brand and size. Whats good about them and what is not.
I have Michelin Pilots road sport touring radial. They came with the bike and are basically brand new so Im not rushing to get new ones until these or done or next season and use these as spares. They are decent but in corners they dont give me that sense of security. Maybe due to the fact I felt the bike slide a few times in some corners. Would have been a little un nerving but I started of on dirt when I was 9 so that helped a bit.
Front - 120/60ZR17
Rear - 160/60ZR18 (I think)

Also one last question. What is the difference between running a 120/60ZR17 then a 120/70ZR17 in the front

I was able to look at my bike and the tire sizes tonight and
120/60ZR17 front
160/60ZR18 rear
So does anybody know the diff from a 120/60 to a 120/70 front tire?

Pretty sure about the front. Why do you ask? Its the rear tire, I think it may be a 180/55ZR18 tough. I will double check tomorrow

Keep in mind here both my bikes still have the tires i bought them with.
The 600 has:
Rear: Bridgestone BT014 150/60/18
Front: Maxxis Barracuda, 110.70/17

The 1000 Has:
Rear: Dunlop Sportmaxx 180/55/17
Front: Michelin Macadam 120/70/17

I don't know of anyone making an 18inch 180 rear tire...but then again, i haven't actually searched.

Bridgestone battleax tyres front & rear
The rear is brand new today :-{ 140-60 18
Used battle ax tyres since I came to the UK never had a problem with feel or cornering , back home I used Metzeller tyres on all my bike dirt & street.
The only exception was Avon MuddPluggers on the Bultaco Alpina 350 mostly because they were better in the severe jungle stuff we rode in each weekend.

I was looking at these tires(pilot 2ct) last night on Michelins web site and how they are 2 different compounds on one tire. So I take it they meet and exceed your standards.

I've put about 2500 miles on them, upwords of 1000 miles of that on the twisties. They still look almost new.The only time I've broken traction on them were in tight 1st gear hair pins where I purposely lock up the rear to slide then accelarte hard through the turn. The harder compound in the middle make them great for mixed ridding,I even got stuck in a rain storm for a good 20 miles while i was hitting the twisties.I slowed down my pace a bit but still had no traction loss.I here a lot of people say that the 120 and 160 will slow your turning down, but I had been so use to my old hevey ninja 6E that thats not even an issue. This bikes handling blows the E's away even with the wider tires on it.So yes they definitely meet and exceed my standards
