Why does everyone use R6 guages?

Post by mrfreeze5 »

Why not R1? The R1 redline is much closer to the FZR than the spirirted R6. So why is it that everyone uses R6 guages anyway? Is it an availability issue or is there some compatibility issue not present with the R6 guages? And secondly, are the mounting dimensions different? Im wondering if R1 guages will bolt into my R6 fairing stay.

The reason I went with R6 was because I was told that the mileage on the one I bought was very close to what was on the stocker. Come to find out it was 10,000 off. The man was wrong.

I was going to use r6 guages, But I've decided to go with r1 guages instead, simply because of the rpm is closer

You're absolutely right. That's the whole reason I went with the R1 gauges in the first place, I wanted the matching red lines. That's been the gauges I've been recommending for the same reason all along. I think it would be kinda strange to have mismatching redlines.

Hi,
Did anyone ever publish where EXACTLY you drill the tacho sensor hole in the gearbox ? I have all my ducks in a row here but I am not gonna turn my engine case into swiss cheese to get the tacho sensor in right.

We already drilled the hole. LOL No really folks, MSZILVES has the measurments but you really dont need them because where you drill is in a little pocket on the block. Lots of pics on this. They are iin my gallery and also in the WIKI. I suggest using the FJR sensor though.

In the original thread the picture showed the install with a plate & a lot of Gloop round it not what I would say really clear as to where this "pocket" is. If I do this I want it correct not just "near enough" so if you have abetter picture / link please post it Thanks

Hey George, it really doesn't have to be lined up with super precision, as the sensor has a pretty good pickup range. There is a pic on the wiki that shows relatively well the placement of the hole. http://fzronline.com/wiki/lib/exe/detai ... swap_5.jpg

I will try and get some measurements added soon.

Kool MS, at least with that pic I can measure the web distance on the bike & scale it to a blow up of the jpg and go with that.
Forgotten which darn sensor I got , you reckon the FJR is the best ?

FJR would be the best because of the length. The r6 is to long and I had to use a spacer but works well.

Also, the converter that Mszilves makes is for the R1 Gauge. Thats the reason I was having trouble getting mine to work with the R6 Gauges. He is working on making the R6 converter some how they are different. Or I can switch to the R1 Gauge and my converter will work.
Just wanted to let everyone know.
