good running temperature?

My bike gets up to 225 degress when im sitting at a stop light during the day.
Is this ok? the bike cools back down to about 185 when riding though.

Thats a bit hot, but wont hurt nothing. You should start to worry if it its 230ish. How do you know the temp number if the FZR has a gauge?

On my SV, I can get to 225 sitting still on a hot day, then it will go back down to 192 at cruising speeds.

my fzr has an r6 digital gauge that shows the temp.
Im going to buy this special stuff to put into my coolent that cools it down by 20%
its like some pinkish red stuff you just add to your normal coolant/water/whatever you use.
it costs $10. ill let you know if it does any good

im not sure if my fan even works, iv never seen the thing running. I think the thing should run as long as the engines running. except maybe when you first start it and it needs to warm up

Mine only comes on when its a long light and reaches 220 or 225.

is it the digital gauge that controls the fans power?
Id like to bypass any auto control and turn it into manual

yeah, you might want to check to make sure your fan is working. I think they come on around 215 +/-

180 - 220 is normal though. if it goes above 230 that could be trouble.


.........according to the wiring diagram it looks like the fan turning on depends on the "thermo switch" and "thermo unit sensor", not the gauge. I have no idea how you would wire it to be on all the time. I thought someone did a write-up of that earlier though, you might want to check on the WIKI.

Try Engine Ice. Wetter Water is good too though but someone correct me if Im wrong, you only add Wetter Water to just water because thats what it only effects?

Wetter water is what I just added to my 50/50 coolent, it didnt seem to make a difference. Maybe I should drain my coolent and mix the wetter water directly into the coolent bottle. im not sure if I added enough (probably not).
but its hot out today and the average riding temp for my bike now is 185, and sitting at a light, it got up to 226.

I want my damn speedo to work but I dont want to drill a flippen hole into my crank case. I mean, wtf if I get metal shavings in there? I dont want to fudge anything up

water-wetter is usually only used on the track........ with 100% water. It's meant to prevent internal rust i believe... and this set-up is only for preventing spills on the track from being slippery, as, anti-freeze is not allowed to be used at tracks, as, it is slippery.

the only thing is... with this set-up, it's not good for cold weather. Good way to let it sit during winter and it turns to ice and destroys the radiator, hoses, etc. --NOT good. So unless you're only using that set-up on a race bike, i wouldn't waste time with it. I believe Shift is the only guy who uses it here, I believe he races WERA and CCS though, and only uses it in his race bike.

+1 on for only track use.

It may help with rust but I think it reduces the surface tension of the water, raising the boiling point in return cooling your engine better then just straight water. Used on the track by pretty much everyone.

Ive had good results with Engine Ice in my SV.

I wish there was a track near where I live, but there isnt. I think daytona is the closest and I cant even count that as a track, is just an oval. and still, its on the other side of the state!

they need a better cool down system.
there should be a dial that your able to turn to regulate a certian temp depending on what the weather is.
like if its cold out, you turn the heat up.
if its hot out, then you turn it down.

That would be too much work. Id forget to change it .

If you think about it, bikes (and cars) are designed to run at a hot temp without hurting any internals.
