First Impressions... My 05 GSXR 600

First Impressions... My 05 GSXR 600

Well, I finally got her home yesterday. It was a long trip (360 miles) to get her.

Here are my assessments:
- Short. It feels short probably due to the fact that the windscreen is not as high or as wide as the FZR.
- Plenty O Midrange. I never knew what Midrange was until I rode this bike.
- Upgrades. There are a lot of things, such as the RPM light, larger radiator, socket head screws on everything, radial mounted brakes and inverted forks that are nice to have on a stock bike.

Now, I'm really sad to say this, but my FZR would have taken this thing in a 1/8 mile. This doesn't have the get up and go that I was expecting. The low and mid range is decent, but WOT is nothing compared to the FZR. Course, my FZR was screaming when I sold her. She was set-up perfectly!

Now, this is a relatively stock bike. Since it is Fuel Injected, I need to buy a Power Commander from DynoJet to make the adjustments. That's not a bad thing since you simply download the mapping, but I'm not too sure that I will have any control other than what they give me. I had total control on the FZRs fuel regulating.

It does appear to have a Nissin radial master cylinder, which I was not expecting.

I don't care for the steel tank. I see too many of them getting dented too easily.

The handling is heavy. This is probably due to the fact that the previous owner dropped the triples down a couple inches. I raised them up last night, so hopefully I'll see a major change. I didn't like fighting it.

It is smoother overall than the FZR, but the sound is "blah" compared to the FZR. The FZR sounds much better.

While it's not a bad bike, it's certainly not as exciting as the FZR. I wish I could have kept the FZR and this bike, but that wasn't in the financial plan.

I will do some more driving this weekend if the rain holds off and will add additional comments.

wow, you may have just made my decision for me. I was debating on whether to upgrade to an R6 or R1 or stick with the Fizzer (now that I have a job at the stealership) and I think I'm just gonna throw money into the FZR.

Just remember that you will have to spend as much, if not a whole lot more to do upgrades on a newer bike.

Newer bikes don't come with stainless brake lines either... $140.

Sprockets / Chain... $160. This thing needs a quick acceleration kit from the git go... sad.

A steering damper for my FZR was $50 (eBay). One for this bike will run $250+

FZR Jet Kit - $110. GSXR Power Commander - $250+

FZR Fox Shock - $300+. GSXR Ohlins Shock - $500+

i thought dropping the forks in the triples, or raising the rear(accomplish the same thing) makes it turn in easier, but less stable

The back was dropped as well, so I doubt it did any good....

You're much too generous. You should have had me throw in some cash as well. lol

I don't want everyone thinking that this machine is not up to par. It is, but it is just in other ways. The beefy frame and digital readouts (with a CLOCK!) as well as a very substantial rear swingarm make this a worthy purchase.

The forks are fully adjustable and not spongy like stock FZR forks. I had Race Techs in my FZR, but they still pale to the feel of these.

I like the fact that this has "true" ram air. Now I just need to get a K&N filter to go with it.

Going out to raise the rear... and kick it into gear... no fear, no fear... I hope I don't hit a John Deere.

Sad, but it's all I had.

it being lowered makes it handle like poop dude


you will have to launch the bike alot harder to get it to go, but it will def out go your FZR if you try hard enough :grinnod:


you should have on the fly adjustment ability with a power commander

well i have a customer of mine who purchased an 07 gsxr600 and that thing was just beautiful , bone stock , so one day i said man that thing is beautiful i would give my left nut to ride it , low and behold he throws me the keys and says go ... to me its feels like riding a formula 1 version of a bike compared to the fzr but when the light turn green and i launched it ..i figured it would throw me off the bike , but honestly other then being almost brand new didnt feel like it had that roar .. dont get me wrong i didnt wanna take it back and when i got back on my bike it really felt like i was riding a 20 yr old bike .

You should of bought the 1 liter. If you dont like it after a few hundred miles just sell it and find something better.

I knew it wasn't going to be too much power, but I figured it would be at the very least on par with the modified FZR.

I'll get the Power Commander next spring along with some other enhancements. I'm certain I can turn this into one heck of a beast.

The transmission is too smooth. I can't even tell that I've shifted half the time. Really, it is so not a Yamaha in this dept.

After adjusting the front forks to stock height and the rear back to the stock dogbones, the bike sits pretty darn high. A lot higher than I thought it would or should.

With the strong mid-range, it should do extremely well at the Track Day where I would have to downshift the FZR to get some corner exiting cajones...

It appears that the rear shock rebound screw is not working. I'll have to dig in and find out why.

rage the bike looks really good hope you are happy with it anything with enough time and/or money can be made to run like you want it to

I already have stainless front brake lines and brake bleeders. It'll get there - just takes money and time.
