Well spent alot of the weekend out in the garage this weekend.. Got the motor back in (damn that was heavy with one shoulder still messed up a lil bit).. But anyways, it's back on, the down tubes are bolted back in place.. This afternoon I ran the wiring back through and started pluggin things back in. One of the other things I had to do was re-do my seats.. 1 because they are uncomfortable as hell.. but they also got damaged (vinyl tearing) in the crash. So, I went to the local fabric shop and picked up some marine vinyl and then went to a mattress shop and got some high density foam.

I decided that since nobody ever rides on the bike with me that I would just re-cover the rear seat.. But for the front seat, I cut off the old "soft foam" section of the seat and made a new piece that's not only thicker, but it will also keep my ass off the harder foam that's stuck to the plastic of the seat..

Just before I called it quits for the night, I mocked up the tail section w/seats on and put the tank cover loosely in place.. Then I took a couple pics..

Here they are:

Next up.. Tomorrow I'm bringin in the headers and the V&H slip-on I received from Haunter to the muffler shop and having the inlet crimped down to make a tighter fit over the 400 stock headers.. Once that's done.. gotta weld on an extra piece of flat-bar on the existing exhaust mount so that it'll fit and connect to my rear pegs.. Then I gotta bring the fuel tank in and have it repaired.. Found out that I made a lil crack in it when I went down.. Nothing big, so I doubt it will cost too much. If it does, then I'll POR it.. No biggie.. I'm hoping to at least fire it up by next weekend and see how she runs, even though I'm still under doctors orders not to ride it.. meh..

Got the header pipe outlet expanded to accomodate the V&H Slip-on.. Fit like a glove.. so put the headers on and tightened them in place.. Slipped the pipe on, and put roughly in place to hold onto the rear peg bracket.. There was a little issue with that.. First was that it obviously didn't line up properly, and 2nd, then I tightened the bracket onto the subframe, it pushed the pipe out (too much I found for my liking). So, took the bracket off, popped the pin holding the peg in, and cut off the tabs on the bracket.. Test fit again and it still pushed out, but with a new piece on the pipe, it actually mounted.. so, took off the peg bracket again and ground down on an angle where the bolt holes are for the subframe.. This way, when it's tightened, it doesn't push the pipe out away from the bike..

Once everything was mounted back on and tightened, it moved the pipe closer to the bike, and it makes it look like a semi-high mount exhaust now.. thought I would have clearance issues with my boots, but I think it'll be alright. Took a couple pics of the setup. Couldn't get much of a wider shot of it because it's only about 3-4 feet from the wall of the garage.. once I can move the bike around again, I'll take more pics..

So I don't have any new pics to add.. Just a video.. I got my fuel tank in this week and I decided to get it running.. Dropped in the oil, water & Waterwetter for coolant.. And then I had problems. The Airbox won't go back in because the boots have solidified since I last ran it.. So, after damn near scalding my hands with boiling water, then hitting it with a lil torch, they still wouldn't soften up enough to go back on.. I order 4 new boots today from the local Yami dealer for $8 / boot. Since I'm still waiting on my upper fairing and fairing stay to come in as well as needing to change the rubber on the front wheel (stock one is damaged from the crash), and re-installing the rubber on the rear, the bike's not goin anywhere. Still, I fired it up and with a V&H SSR can on the back, originally off a 600 it sounds prettty good.

Here's what I got:

Image

Hopefully the fairing and stay will be in next week so I can finish the paintjob and get all the gauges and the headlight mounted up front..

Thanks.

Didn't paint the swingarm.. I'm gonna end up doing the frame/swingarm next year.. I also wanna powder coat the rims, but since money's tight I couldn't do it this year.

Amazing how different they sound with the various exhausts..

I don't care if mine's too loud.. If I get pulled over for it, I'm just gonna tell the officer that if I can't be seen (or people just don't look properly), they'll damn well hear me coming..

And we're getting closer to final restoration of my bike.. Got the upper fairing in last week and painted it all white last night.. Tonight, we added the red and tomorrow I'll be masking it back up to put in the black pinstripe.. I think it turned out great and it's noticably brighter than the lowers and such because it was 10 minutes out of the booth.. It'll dry darker like the rest.. Anywho, here's the pics:

So once I get the black done on the upper, I can finish adjusting the birdcage and mirror mounts, mount the upper.. Finish wiring up my over-ride switch for the fan, re-install the airbox, seats, tank cover.. And work on brackets to make the 600 plastics match up on the bike and look half decent.. The mirrors are done as well (no pics since they're just mirrors painted red :) ) Signal plates for upper is done white and the front fender is white as well.. I'm hoping to have *completed* pics by the weekend if I can get things done..

Getting close :) .. Hoping to have it finished by the weekend. Today, I ran my 2nd fan blowing into the rad, the one that's behind the rad pulls the air and blows it onto the motor.. Should keep my temp down. Brand new Temp. switch and thermal sensor in there and something's fubar'd.. So I just bypassed the system and have a switch now mounted on the gauge panel, which is wired into the ignition switch so I can control the fan at will.. I usually run with it on all the time when in the city...

Pics are self explanatory :) Upper is mocked up in place, not bolted down yet, but I'll get to that tomorrow.

All that's left to do is torque my caliper bolts, adjust the bars, bolt in the mirrors and make new brackets for the lowers then install em.. I'm surprised at how well the 600 plastics line up. They're not exact, but they're not off by that much either. 1/8 flatbar with holes will do the trick. Just have to measure, cut and bolt in place.

One thing that pissed me off though. For the last 10+ months I kept cursing the little covers which go on behind the headlights. They kept getting in my way. So tonight when I went to put them on, I could only find one! :swear :swear

Oh well.. Found out my insurance rates are going to be down ~$600 even after my accident. I guess there was something good about turning 30 :duh:

And here's what everyone's been waiting for.. The pics of a completed bike.. Ok, it's still not 100% complete, but it's about 98%.. Still have to work on the signals up front, but that's more or less it..

There's some decent shots of the bike in here now.. You'll also see a couple I threw in there of the brackets I had to make, which was just 1/8" flatbar.. nothing special, but required to mount the 600 fairings on the 400 frame... Also in there is the pic of the 2nd fan blowing on the rad.. Works great but I'll only be able to tell once I can leave the yard with the bike :s

And yes, the pic in there is me with my daughter..
