Newbie HEADLIGHT SWAP QUESTION

Post by tkclow »

Hello and sorry if this has been answered before I just couldn't find it. I have a 92 FZR600 and want to swap to the dual headlight and upper. Can someone please tell me everything I need to purchase for the swap and if there are any wiring changes needed for going from 1 headlight to 2. Is this a pretty straight forward bolt in swap? Thank you all for the help. :tks:

I believe you just take the mounting bracket and everything from the dual headlight and install it onto yours.
it should have the same wiring hookups.

You'll need the front part of the wiring harness off the dual as well. Since there are 2 headlights to power instead of one. I guess the bigger questions is why you'd want to swap to the dual?

seriously why on gods green earth would you go from 1 to 2 headlights? :puke: i'm trying to go from 2 to 1 :headbang: . I loathe the dual round lights with the flat front end that looks like it ran into the wall. you'll need the birdcage/fairing stay/whatever you want to call it. and the wiring harness probably, unless you want to try and hack up yours

Thanks for all info guys. I don't know, I just see all the other FZR's and feel a little out of place. I don't dislike the single just seems hard to find a different windscreen for the singles. I think the windscreen stay may be bent slighty also because the screen dips down on the right side. Will be getting painted over the winter as the guy I bought it from painted if a horrible green/purple color changing paint.

all that I know is that I love my signal.
it doesnt look like the front end smashed into a wall like the doubles.
I would only convert mine to a honda cbr double.

As far as headlights go, there are really 4 choices. There is the dual headlight model (89-90,93-98), single headlight model (91-92), the UK single dual headlight model (various years and models had them), and the German single dual headlight (fzr 1000 & 600 about 93-95). If you have the US single headlight, the UK and German models will bolt directly in. You only need to modify the wire harness. To swap from he dual to the single or single to the dual you need these parts. Front headlight/fairing bracket (also called the birdcage), front fairing, wind screen, headlight wire harness, air tubes, and the light itself. This swap is a direct bolt on replacement as long as you have all the parts.

If you want to see an example of the UK light, look up Noahs bike in the Bikes For Sale section. For the German light, look up my build in the Hybrid section.

Well, I really wanted to make my bike different. But at the same time, I have a thing for the two lights. When I came across the German light, I decided to convert the fairings so I could use it. It's definitely not a cheap endeavor.

Keep in mind that the local PD may not take kindly to the UK or German lights. I don't know if the UK light has the DOT stamp on it and I can't remember if the German on does or not. I'll have to look when I get home from work. If they don't have the DOT stamp and you're at fault for an accident, things could get fairly complicated and expensive for you.

I converted my UK 1991 single headlamp to the twin set up. One thing I discovered is that the wiring look for the twin lamps has totally different connectors to the bikes loom on the '91. It was easy to sort - I just chopped one of the H4 connectors off the loom for the twin light and soldered it into the old headlamp loom. 10 minute job.
