yzf600 carb question

Post by match417 »

i just finished doing a handlebar conversion with the yzf600 handlebars on my fzr to get rid of the crappy looking grips/switches/and resovior. I rewired the switches fine, and i just have to get a flasher and a relay to rewire the turn sigs to work. The major problem i couldn't seem to avoid was the throttle cables from the yzf600. I couldn't get the yzf600 cables to fit in the fzr carbs, no matter what i tried. I even tried cutting some of the sheath around the cables to no avail. So now i'll need new throttle cables to get it to work..lol..i nicked one of the strands and it unraveled a bit, but i'm back with the fzr switches for now until i can get the cable issue figured out, the easiest thing to do would be to just get yzf600 carbs, but i'm happy with my carb setup. So my question is this, how similar are the fzr and yzf carbs? are they similar enough to use the throttlw bracket from the yzf600 carbs on the fzr? Are yzf600 carbs mikuni? or are they keihin or K&L? I'll probably end up making something with aluminum and jb weld if i can't get the bracket to work..lol.

The YZF (do you mean what we'd call an FZR600R? - bloody Yamaha!) uses 34mm Keihins, compared to the FZRs 32mm mikunis. Thats the only difference between the 2 motors (certainly in UK trim) and alone gives another 8BHP on the UK bikes. You'll need inlet and airbox rubbers from the YZF, but i don't know what you'll need in terms of cable stops or bracketry i'm afraid, though they shouldn't be hard to fabricate if needed.

if the cable doesnt fit from the yzf, then why dont you just put the fzr cable onto the yzf throttle? IDK

thats what I did for the r6 controls, it required a little thinking at the connection holes.
