Maier solo seat cover

Post by jeremy »

I finally painted and installed my Maier solo seat cover/cap. I bought the paint from Colorite. Pretty good stuff. I am not too impressed with the fitment of the Maier piece, but it's good enough for now. I can always tweek it some more later.

Anyways, here's a pic:

Ya the paint isn't spot on, which bugs me. I bought the stuff from Colorite. After priming and prep, I did three coats of the base, two top coats and two clear (if I remeber correctly). I was pretty high on paint fumes :whistle.

I painted the cap at my shop and didn't have the bike here to compare it to. It looks like it could have used another top coat. It was hard to tell, when I was painting it, it looked quite a bit darker/yellower. For now it will do, I might put some numbered decals on it to help blend it in a bit.

Have a few decals made for it to help take off the "white".

Looks real good man.

Stupid question. But how is it attached. I see a screw near the front of it, is it attached to some kind of bracket?

Lets hit the road soon to. I found some good ones.

Shawn, it attaches to the two seat screws on either side and there is a little plastic tab that fits under the rear.

Just an idea, but when I mounted mine I bought those rubber vibration isolator things that mount your side fairings (you know, the big rubber washers with the steel sleeve in the center?) and they're a perfect fit for the seat bolts. I installed them so that when I scoot back on the seat and sit against the seat cowl, I don't have to worry about the cowl cracking.
