Can you still get 150/60 18 BT45?

Post by moochems »

It's time for a new rear (about 8,000 miles on current, no tread in the center but still not down to cords) and I want to replace with a stock sized bt45. Problem is I can't find them anywhere except UK based websites (not paying that shipping). I want to get a set of bt014's but not until my front needs replaced (figure the next time I get rubber I'll need both).

I can, however, find bt45 compound in a 150/70 18 size. I've heard of people deviating from stock specs on tires, but usually to a 160/60 18. Is a 150/70 18 safe to run?

I'm still kinda green, and understand that tires are the most important link to the road, input is appreciated

dunno if this helps out at all, but reading here and elsewhere seems a 150/70 is fine whereas a 160/60 s starting to get a little wide and may cause you some greif with clearances

A 150 is fine, a 160 is not... hardly anyone goes with a 160 on a stock rim - too large. It will rub on brake arm - bad news.

Oh i see. I remember hearing something about the 160/60 tires on our bikes, I guess what I heard was a no go though.

So the difference between a 150/60 and 150/70 is 10 mm more on the OD (outer diameter?)?

Is that like saying the crown of a 150/70 is just more pronounced (10mm ) than a 150/60?

yeah, I don't really get what the second #, number in parenthesis 150/(60) 18 means. I far can I deviate on this #?

IIRC, it's the sidewall height as as a percentage of the width, that's what it is for the four-wheeled cages anyways.
