04 GSXR 1000 Rear Shock

04 GSXR 1000 Rear Shock
I found a GSXR 1000 Stock Rear shock for cheaper than what i could pass up(even though i dont own a Suzuki) Has anyone tried putting one of these on thier FZR600??? how much grinding and drilling will i have to do to make it fit??

i had a 01 on mine. you need gsxr dog bones besides that its a bolt on if use the fzr link mount and some washers to fit it in the top shock mount.

So the Gsxr dog bones are direct fit for the fzr? Do you have any pics of what yours looked like installed?

I had an 03 GSXR 750 in mine for a while. I've since gone back to the stock one. The FZR is heavier than the modern gixxers and the stock shock has a higher spring rate. So if you are any heavier than, let's say 140lbs (I'm 190), you could run into issue with the bike bottoming out even on acceleration. This is what i experienced with it mainly because all I did was crank the tension all the way up on the gixxer shock and then put it in the bike. I didn't have it re valved or rebuilt with a heavier spring before hand. If I were to do it again I would go with a Hayabusa shock because the spring rate is higher than both the FZR and the Gixxer 1K and has more adjust ability or i'd find a good aftermarket shock like a Fox Twin Clicker or a Progressive 420. The GSXR dogbones do fit as well. Ragedigital has experimented with a Hayabusa shock and was pretty pleased with the results. You may want to PM him to get better details. There's a write up that he did on his setup floating around the web also and my setup was similar.
I don't have any close up pics of the install but here's how I did it and please keep in mind that I did not move any of the stock shock mounts on my FZR's frame:
The only mod I had to do to the frame was remove that little loop on it that is under the battery box. I don't think it's needed for anything as the battery box bolts to the frame from each side and sits above this anyway..
I cut out the bottom of the battery box to allow it to sit over the reservoir (needed the room).
I then made the lower fork end of the gixxer shock wider with a bench grinder so the should would fit over the FZR linkage knuckle. I also rounded the edges as well. Others have also re drilled the lower mount on the shock (moving the bolt holes higher up), I did not do this.
The top mount was just shimmed with washers on each side bolted it in using the FZR bolt.I turned the FZR linkage knuckle around (so it's facing backwards) and using the Gixxer dogbones, I bolted up that part and was done.
Please also keep in mind that I'm not saying that you shouldn't try this. I'm merely giving my experience with it and how I would do it differently if I were to swap the shock again. Hope that gives some insight.

as you say the GSXR is light weight against our FZR's which is why most suzuki shock users plumped for the BUSA which is a bit heavier.
Our Intrepid Leader Rage Digital sent me a set of pics of his swap as he described how he had to cut the fork end & grind it for it to work.
However I have a spare set of dogbones & tri-casting + a 'busa shock and at least on the table it all fits without the cutting & grinding which struck me as odd
I will ask RD if I can set them on my site (since the bulk are his photo's) so you can see what I am on about
