headlight wont turn on

Post by surgscrubfzr »

so i get out of work last night and turn my bike on and the headlight goes on for a second then turns off and wont come back on. i have checked the fuses and the bulb but nothings wrong with either one. ive had this problem before but it just started working on its own. i know its eletrical. is there a way to install a manual switch so i can turn them on and off by hand? has anyone else had this kind of problem before? its a 92 fzr 600 single headlight. thanks guys.

you sure the headlight bulb isn't busted , i've seen a bunch of them that still looked good , try pulling the bulb and lighting it up off a car battery , if it doesn't go it's dead .

Had the same issue about a year ago and it turned out to be the blue wire on the switch assembly itself. How the wiring was situated (at least on my bike) the soldered connection between the wire and the switch came apart. Soldered it back together, works fine now. Only thing is you'll have to take apart the switch assembly to check it out...that's no big deal though.

The main points of failure to look at here are the ignition switch and the start button. The headlights shut off when you press the start button. It's somewhat common that the switch gets gunked up then sticks. It's easy to fix though, open it up, clean it with some electrical contact cleaner, apply some dielectric grease and put it back together.
