since one coil serves two cylinders and the other one that is pared with cyl 2 is working it aint the coil by reason of logic.
That leaves the plug, the plug cap & the wire itself.
Most times it is the plug swap it for a new one (not an old one from a collection but a shop bought new one) <BG>

Re: Lets talk SPARK!
I might of had a similar issue. I replaced one plug cap, and trimmed the wires back about a 1/2 inch to get a better contact on the cap end (as they can be screwed back on easily). But the wires are epoxied to the coil end (which is stupid). I looked into replacing the wire, and it could be done with some effort, but looks like it could be a bitch of a job regardless. Good luck.

Re: Lets talk SPARK!
They are not epoxied. I had a dead set of coils that I dissected and they are just "pressed" in. I should get some pictures onto the wiki for informational purposes so people can understand what's going on inside.
Basically there's a tube the entire length of the coil. At the bottom there's a pointy little spike that pokes into the middle of the cable to make contact. The tube gets about 1mm wider about 3/4 the way down. The insulation on the cables seems to expand a bit over time and fills up the extra girth of the tube. This is what makes them so hard to get out, you need to squeeze that fatter part at the end of the cable through the narrower part of the tube.
I found a liberal amount of penetrating oil helped out. Pull the cable to one side so as to open a gap and oil it up. Pull the cable the other way and hit the other side up. Rock the wire around and try to work the oil in as deep as possible. Let it sit and then hit again and let it sit some more.
When pulling the wire out, do not twist it. If it breaks off inside the hole, you'll need new coils as there's no way to get it out without destroying the coil. Try to pull straight out. You can work the angle you're pulling a little to try and "walk" the cable out from side to side. Once it starts breaking free, it generally comes right out.
To replace it you need 7mm solid core wires. They're hard to find so you might end up ordering it. You only need about 2 or 3 feet of wire total so you buy a single long lead and cut it up. Spray the hole out with electrical contact cleaner to get the oil before installing the new one. The 7mm wire seemed to fit inside with a lot of extra room so 8mm might work a little better, but I didn't test it out.
I didn't end up replacing wires on mine because I broke two of the wires off in the hole while trying to get them out of my donor coils. Good luck.

T,
i seem to remember back in the day that the chemical that was used for nail polish remover acetone or maybe MEK (methyl ether ketone ) breaks down epoxy.
Anyone ?
