FZR1000 Back to life?

Post by Colhendo »

I've just bought a FZR 1000 which used to belong to an avid biker but has been off the road for around 6 years.
I've been told the engine spins but I'm wondering before I connect a battery / jump pack and try and fire it up what suggestions there are for what to do beforehand rather than just seeing if she'll start?
I'm thinking drain and replace oil, filter, fuel, give the carbs a quick clean, change the plugs, fit the battery and see what happens!
Any other suggestions?
I'm going to try and post some photos next week but am on holiday at the moment.
Cheers!

Definitely drain fuel and give carbs a good clean. Would be tempted to spin it over without plugs maybe drop a small amount of oil down the bores to make sure it's lubed as you can't be sure it's been turned over whilst stored

Welcome to the mad house btw

Cheers Stig, appreciate the advice. Had a look at your bike pics on exup1000- great colour scheme!
Mine's not quite "standard" to say the least but I think I'll keep the colour "Trophy Blue" as I haven't seen another one like it. Really hoping I can get it back to life on the road. My FZR600 is so much fun to ride I'm hoping the 1000 promises as much but with the extra grunt!
Will try and post some photos now I'm back at home.
Tried to register on exup1000 but it told me my email was banned! Any ideas?
Thanks for the welcome btw - looking forward to it!
